🤬 Microsoft bans LibreOffice developer's account without warning, rejects appeal • Neowin

「 Recently, we reported on LibreOffice, accusing Microsoft of intentionally using complex file formats as a tactic to lock in users to Microsoft Office, hindering open source alternatives like LibreOffice.

Now, Microsoft has banned LibreOffice developer, Mike Kaganski, from using its services, citing an "activity that violates [its] Services Agreement" 」

@jbz I'm looking forward to the day when #Microsoft is just the punchline of a joke about how to ruin computers.

The future is #FOSS.

A story in two acts.

Microsoft Teams is the worst app for communication

Microsoft Teams is quite possibly the worst app for work, its slow... buggy.. and the UI is terrible, even sending an attachemt or joining a meeting is challenging when the user is greeted with constant sign in loops & access errors.

Reason 10 To Choose Linux 😍

Linux 🐧 is more private, by default

Own and control your data!

Your operating system won't record your key strokes or dictation, collect lists of devices and their Wi-Fi details, or webcams, printers and anything else plugged in and then send that back to Big Tech HQ.

It's possible to avoid data collection altogether, from the start.

With #Linux YOU decide how to share YOUR data.

Support for Windows 10 ends on October 14, 2025. Microsoft wants you to buy a new computer. But what if you make your existing one fast and secure again?

If you bought your computer after 2010, there's likely no reason to throw it out. By installing an up-to-date Linux operating system, you can keep using it for years to come!

Installing an operating system may sound hard, but you don't have to do it alone. There may be some people in your area who have volunteers to help! Scan the QR code or visit the URL above to find someone to help upgrade your system to Linux.

The French city of Lyon is dropping #Microsoft software in favor of #OpenSource alternatives. It doesn't want to depend on proprietary, closed-source software, and it doesn't want to depend on American software. It doesn't want "potential [US] governmental surveillance."
https://news.itsfoss.com/french-city-replaces-microsoft/

PS: It's hard to avoid concluding that #Trump is playing a role here. While he uses tariffs to boost American companies, he scares foreign buyers away from American companies, at least software companies that collect user data. He's creating a TikTok problem for American software. Microsoft didn't help itself on this front by giving $1 million to the Trump inauguration.

Linux users are finally realizing what it takes to help others make the switch

A decade ago, when I started university, GitHub's #opensource Atom was the standard text editor that new programmers got introduced to "by default". It was what the university suggested, and so everyone who didn't already have an opinion on text editors started using it.

Years later, #Microsoft bought #GitHub, discontinued Atom, and introduced the replacement: Visual Studio Code. It has completely taken over as the "default editor" for new programmers.

#VSCode is proprietary. This sucks.
