In the spirit of #WaterfallWednesday, I hiked into the mountains outside Vail today to a series of cascading waterfalls! Here is one of the waterfalls (left pic). To take the pic, I needed to scramble down a steep class II/III rock formation (pic on right by Lori H.). A beautiful hike including views of an expansive meadow and mountain ridge. #Colorado #mountains #waterfall

Photo of me taking photo of waterfall in other pic. I am seen at a great distance away at the bottom of a steep rock formation that I scrambled down to take the pic. The waterfall is not in this view, which is why I climbed down to get a full view of the waterfall for the photo on the left.

I took this pic at three miles into Upper Piney Trail.
When photographing a waterfall the temptation is often to pop the camera on a tripod, add an ND filter and drop the shutter speed to 1sec to produce that classic, silky stream look.
Today, I did the exact opposite, cranking my shutter speed to 1/8000sec, with auto ISO and a wide open aperture to produce the abstract images below.
I'm happy with the results and will probably pursue this more in future visits to the woods.
