RE: https://systemli.social/@anneroth/115586803185165508

I give Gmail the slowest possible treatment🐌 🐢 —if I respond at all.

A few years ago, I reached my breaking point with Gmail’s escalating privacy issues and chose to stop replying to Gmail addresses entirely. At first, it felt a bit harsh, but I soon realized: if people genuinely need to reach you, they’ll find another way. And indeed, they have.

Now, I only respond to emails from providers that respect privacy. Gmail users either wait weeks for a reply—or switch to services like ProtonMail or Tutanota once they notice their messages go unanswered. It may sound strict, but this approach has surprisingly encouraged better digital habits around me.

Has anyone else tried refusing Gmail emails as a quiet protest against data mining?

Considering very seriously (again) to refuse to exchange emails with people who are using #Gmail.

Gmail can read your emails and attachments to train its AI, unless you opt out

A new Gmail update may allow Google to use your private messages and attachments for AI training. Here's how to turn it off.

Giorno #16

The Unihertz Jelly Star is two years old, runs Android 13, and still does something no other phone can: make me think before I use it.
It’s tiny, awkward, and honest — a detox device that actually works. No one’s made anything like it since. Even Unihertz gave up.
I looked for something that could replace it. Nothing exists.

Enjoying the maximalism of two ereaders side by side with the book ”#DigitalMinimalism” on them.

Trying out a colour #Kobo after a long line of black-and-white Kindles and I’m quite torn so far.

Great book, incidentally.

Two e-readers side by side on a wooden surface. White Kobo Libra Colour on left, black Kindle Paperwhite on right. Both showing the cover for ”Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World” by Cal Newport.

I tried using grayscale filters on my devices previously and reverted within a day. I am trying this again, this time with more consistency. This is to avoid my dopamine levels spiking out of control.

On Android devices, this feature is built-in. If using LineageOS, go to Settings -> Display -> Live Display -> "Reading mode" to toggle the switch.

On desktop, I am using this for Firefox alone for now. Go to addons, search for "Grayscale" and pick one.
