I have been trying to figure out why the Pixel 8A screen bothers me so much, and it seems to be the rainbow banding when you tilt the screen at all. It makes it feel like my eyes can't focus on the screen, it's weird. I found other people on forums complaining that the 8A has an extra cheap screen and that causes the rainbow effect. Other Pixels seem okay.

This is a photo someone on Reddit took that shows rainbow on the left phone, next to a phone with no rainbow.

The up side to all this is that I have been using my phone only the bare minimum for the last week. I think that's a good reminder that I don't need a phone for very much. I try to keep my tech simple, so I am going to set up any new phone to be as minimal as possible.

I would still like to get a phone with a more eye sensitivity-friendly screen than the Pixels, preferably an LCD screen. So I am considering the Oneplus line. They have some lower end LCD phones, and their flagship phones have more screen settings for eye comfort. Or maybe even going nuts and trying an iPhone SE from 2022, because I hate big phones. But going back to Apple would probably make me crazy, since I am used to having more control. I don't feel like there is a great answer.
