We at @BoxyBSD are happy to announce our new and modern website!
While the missions keeps the same by providing a free place for beginners to learn, educate themselves and test things in the wild on BSD-based systems (such like #FreeBSD, #NetBSD, #OpenBSD (or even #smolbsd) and many more ones) with public accessible IP addresses, the old nerdy design only hit a niche of users.
We want to make BoxyBSD more accessible & enjoyable to everyone and this is one of the first steps. We know, a laggy SSH connection doesn't make fun and therefore, we're also setting up new locations to provide you a better latency independent of your location.
During this time, signups for new users are currently deactivated until the new locations are up and running and the first real-user tests within the new interface have been successfully performed.

Instead of only selecting a set of pre-defined BSD based images, you'll soon also be able to create your install simply from scratch with full remote access to your box. This lets you perform custom installations of #FreeBSD, #NetBSD, #OpenBSD, #DragonflyBSD, #MidnightBSD but also of some other niche systems like #illumos
Unfortunately, this might still take some time and fully relies on the spare time of @gyptazy.

While we still have a plenty of free resources, we might switch from an open registration model to a recommendation / mentor model where already present users can invite new users.
This is not yet fix but a possibility to avoid misusage and abuse where our primary goal is still to provide resources for people interested into BSD based systems. Maybe also closer integrations with BSD communities like the BSD Cafe ( @stefano) could be an approach.

⚠️ Signups are currently deactivated!
We're now slightly below 1000 free VPS instances!
Within the last few weeks, coming with new locations around the world, we got more and more signups, where people can also test their setups across different geo locations @BoxyBSD.
Unfortunately, this also increases the required support which is really time consuming and only handled by @gyptazy. While everything is fully automated, support is another thing and I need a short break. Hope to open the signups quickly again.
PS: This project is completely free, not even any donation possibilities etc - just imagine a box would only cost 1$.
