Die 17 Sustainable Development Goals der Vereinten Nationen schwebten für uns immer sehr weit oben in der fernen Weltklimapolitik. Die Broschüre "Punkten für das Gemeinwohl und die SDGs" hat uns die Konzepte in den Alltag heruntergeholt. (https://germany.econgood.org/tools/gemeinwohl-bilanz/)

Es ist sehr motivierend, wenn man die tägliche, unspektakuläre Arbeit als genossenschaftlicher Webhoster sinnvoll in ein umfassenderes Bild einordnen kann.

Durch die eigene IT-Infrastruktur macht die Hostsharing eG ihre Mitglieder unabhängig von in- und ausländischen Cloudanbietern und Hostingunternehmen, bei denen das Gewinnerzielungsinteresse die Geschäftspolitik bestimmt. BoxyBSD will bring in a feature for more advanced users for our free boxes. Instead of only selecting a set of pre-defined BSD based images, you'll soon also be able to create your install simply from scratch with full remote access to your box. This lets you perform custom installations of #FreeBSD, #NetBSD, #OpenBSD, #DragonflyBSD, #MidnightBSD but also of some other niche systems like #illumos

Unfortunately, this might still take some time and fully relies on the spare time of @gyptazy.

Meine Mutter ist böse von einer Umstellung bei #Hosteurope auf Microsoft365 überrascht worden. Sie hat nur eine Domain um ein individuelles Postfach zu haben. Jetzt ist Wechselwille da. Was kann man da empfehlen für eine .de Domain mit nur einem einzigen Postfach für einen möglicht geringen Monatspreis bei einem veranwortungsvollen Hoster? #Hosting#Domain

Did you notice? The registration was temporary open today and we welcome all new users! 🥳

While we still have a plenty of free resources, we might switch from an open registration model to a recommendation / mentor model where already present users can invite new users.

This is not yet fix but a possibility to avoid misusage and abuse where our primary goal is still to provide resources for people interested into BSD based systems. Maybe also closer integrations with BSD communities like the BSD Cafe ( @stefano) could be an approach.

At the individual scale, self-hosting is not a good way to “be in control of my data.”

It’s like saying I do a vegetable garden to be in control of my food. I need much more than I can grow, it’s an inefficient use of my time, and I’m one bad season away from losing it all.

Resilience and transparency are key to be in control of my data and I can’t achieve this alone. This is a social problem, we need to bring solutions as a society.

@thibaultamartin I self host too and I also host other people. However, I don't do as much of it as I used to. Hosting other people is a huge headache so I let that business fade out.

I never made a serious effort to grow my #hosting service. It ran it as a social enterprise.

I didn't just offer good hosting to them, I also offered them support and advice they could trust. That kind of service is something that I should have valued more and priced in a way that was more fair to me.

Offering artisanal hosting run by an expert who knows you, your site, and your goals is something I wish I had more time to do. I'd love to see other people build a business from this model. My advice is to be sure to price it fairly to yourself and clearly explain the value you are providing.

Ich suche ein schlankes CMS zum selbst hosten mit einem LNMP. Was nimmt man denn da heute? Gerne auch ohne Datenbank. Wordpress ist viel zu groß, und auch nicht mehr wirklich bedienbar. #bludit hat mir gefallen, aber da scheint es keine Entwicklung mehr zu geben, das Git ist sehr ruhig. Wichtig ist, dass die Autoren mit einem WYSIWYG Editor Beiträge erstellen können, die direkt online sind. Also MD und SSGs sind keine Option für mich. Themes dürften auch noch gerne einfach anzupassen sein. Also eigentlich so wie Wordpress mal vor 20 Jahren war.
