BBB staatssecretaris #EugèneHeijnen decides to move all Dutch #tax data to #Microsoft servers in the US.
Whoever is, or will be in charge of the US government will soon have a complete overview of all tax records in the Netherlands.
That includes the records of you and me.
The incompetence, naivety and stupidity is absolutely shocking.
Across the world, governments are moving in the (sane) opposite direction.
Not the #Netherlands.
The failure is spectacular.

The ultra-wealthy would have a better case against a wealth tax if they were paying similar levels of tax to other people... however, while squealing about over-taxation of various forms, around the world the rich consistently pay less tax than regular folk.
Their disassociation from society, formed by a belief that their money is a just reward for their brilliance is just a different form of sociopathy (cloaked by the media & politicians).

I never got a scam e-Mail like that before! So how did they know!
My employer filed for insolvency in 2023 and all employees got their last salaries from the #IEF. In such cases everybody has to pay extra tax on that next year.
The scammer probably got the insolvency data from public records and employee names from the homepage. Guessed one of my e-Mail Addresses. Bet on people forgetting this #tax debt, waited two years and then sent targeted #scam e-Mails!
That's a new level of insidious!
In the last 48h my 4 year old son got in a reasonably serious bike accident, hitting his face pretty hard and breaking his front teeth. Luckily, they were his baby (milk) teeth, his adult teeth were not damaged, and he didn't break his jaw.
This all being said, I happen to be in a position to afford the dental care required to rapidly resolve this issue for my son.
Sadly, many folks in #Canada don't have this privilege. How is dental care (and for that matter, optical care) not covered by #tax

Uber earned $402m in revenue in NZ last year but paid less than $1m in tax.
It should be 50 times that, but global tax rules provide cover for corporations to profit at our expense.
It's time for a fair tax system, globally and in Aotearoa New Zealand!

very high #tax rates.
This is not just about #redistribution within nations. #Piketty stresses the need for new class solidarities that cut across borders. Convincing working and middle classes in rich countries that the #elite will finally be held accountable can also help support people in the #GlobalSouth who are already suffering the worst #climate damages.
The gap between rich and poor #CarbonFootprints is now wider than at any time since the nineteenth century.

Meanwhile in Norway.... the taxation of the wealthy has become a key election issue, with the major parties responding to the 'exodus' of the mega rich (upset at a 1% wealth tax) over the last decade.
Even if the centre Left wins, it looks like the tax will be 'reviewed' at the very least.
Which once again poses the Q. of why the ultra-rich who would hardly notice a 1% levy on their wealth get so vexed about its imposition? A Q. of relevance well beyond Oslo.

Martin Sandbu (FT) identifies four myths about wealth taxes:
Its too hard to do - well that hasn't stopped both Switzerland & Norway doing it (pretty well);
It won't actually raise much money - both countries above it raises substantial revenue;
It will scare the rich away - well it seldom does & then often they go to Switzerland (err, that has wealth taxes);
It will depress investment - no evidence backs up this claim.
So there we have it; wealth taxes are clearly possible!
