Class discrimination is all about us (in some ways it almost defines British society, a society riddled with often obscured or masked but naturalised class discrimination).

It makes sense that an elite protected from any costs (of prices, of legal repercussions) uses blackmail as leverage for their deals.
Holding secrets yourself is risky, so it’s logical for reputation banks to exist. Epstein was one. There are others.
As Will Snell (Fairness Foundation) concludes:
'Extreme wealth is inherently harmful. The only surefire way to solve the problem is to take measures to reduce the underlying level of wealth inequality itself, both by redistributing wealth through the tax system and, through various means, by sharing it more broadly across society in the first place'!
As we might say: extreme wealth is not a sign of economic success bit rather of political economic failure!

Monaco-based migrant Jim Ratcliffe complains about immigrants in the UK, while himself being an immigrant in Monaco.
But that's different because he's rich & entitled, and the migrants in Britain are just normal folk trying to survive & thus merely a problem to be resolved.
Of course, its just the usual hypocrisy of the wealthy amplified by the complicit media.
@randahl I agree, I am worried about the Europeans drifting off to the fascism & right wing extreme. 28% is nothing to be happy about, still I see the positive in the declining trend of idiocracy. I just hope they all keep watching USA closely & hope they want to prevent what is happening there from happening here as well.

I don't know the numbers so threading carefully here, but in general the wealth distribution gap was smaller in the period after ww2 until the mid 80's in most western democracies. There was a greater outtake of taxes on the top 1-5% in society and social welfare reforms were implemented.
We now have about the same distribution profile as before modern democracy.

Given Jim Ratcliffe has been complaining about the number of people who are on benefits in the UK, perhaps he should recall that nearly half of those recipients are in receipt of in-work benefits & as such the real beneficiaries are hie fellow businessmen who are seeing their profits supported by the state that is subsiding employment (thereby allowing firms to pay their workers less).

As Robert Shrimsley (FT) suggests the corruption wrought on politics by money is becoming ever more serious.... not least of all, because with heightened inequality there are some very rich people who are happy to corrupt democracy to serve their own needs.
