Have you tried either of these?
What do you like or don't like?

@thisismissem @varx checking display name (including unicode codepoint aliases and the invisible ones) and profile photo would help a lot, I believe

@rodolforg @thisismissem probably, im assuming pairing that with any patterns they can find in the PII is why @thisismissem is asking for that data. Categorizing spam by content though is such a cat-and-mouse game.

I just discovered the idea of proof-of-work stamps to help curtail spam in #reticulum so Im in the "everything is a nail" phase of hyper-focus. To her point though, you *maybe* could require that for "DMs" but it would be totally unreasonable for all public posts.

@oscillator hey, that sounds interesting. Which radio device did you actually get? I am currently looking for alternatives of this kind for a group where I am taking part and we would like to keep communications going in case of disaster.

@jorgeluis I got a Heltec LoRa V3 board, which is widely supported by projects AFAIK. Other than that it would depend on the specific software stack you want to use.

#Meshcore:
https://github.com/ripplebiz/MeshCore/tree/main?tab=readme-ov-file#-hardware-compatibility
(Super simple to get started. Tries to solve flaws from #meshtastic.)

#Reticulum:
https://reticulum.network/hardware.html
(Super versatile and what I suspect to be the best tech stack. But rather complex and steep learning curve.)

In the end there should be an overlap of the most common devices.

My evaluation of resilient and disturbed means of communication started today #meshnetworks. I received my #LoRa radio board and installed #meshcore. No contact to other nodes yet, but I’m also not sure what to expect. Let’s see how it goes…
The next step will be #reticulum, but it looks too advanced to be a good starting point for me.

Now back to the positive.

All is not lost, meshtastic is the biggest LoRa mesh and it sucks BUT its not the only one and the same mobile nodes and repeaters you'd use for meshtastic can be used on any other LoRa mesh.

I think the most exciting meshtastic alternative is Reticulum. It exists already, has a routing and security approach for the real world but might be too opinionated in some ways for some users. It's a bit of a grander vision
