@lutindiscret @hyc @liaizon Again, email is right there and how many people can you reach via email? The premise was that federation *inherently* doesn't work, and that's quite obviously wrong.
XMPP isn't more widely used due to a lack of investment, because every new messenger funded by VC money (which Signal also was) wants to be the only game in town, or at least compete directly with the largest ones. Hardly anyone dares to invest in real freedom of choice.

#xmpp is super, but also check out #deltachat, which easy-to-use #e2ee like #signalmessenger, but #decentralized because it runs over #email (and #chatmail) servers.

Debugging some issues with my setup and managed to catch this nice spectrogram. This is captured from an RTL-SDR with the muzi works whip antenna, the cheap JMT bandpass filter for 915 MHz, and the gain cranked all the way up. The client sending the ping is a SenseCAP T-1000E, while the repeater is the SenseCAP Solar Node.
@hiphopheaven Great point and i absolutely agree.
I think for many coming to the #fediverse happens out of curiosity as well as it being a generally safe space for marginalized people.
They then see the cool things this place has to offer and get excited about it even more so. That's the trend i've watched since 2017.
But then their friends won't join and that sometimes affects whether or not they stay, go or use both #centralized & #decentralized platforms.
If it's not #decentralized, #federated and #FLOSS it's not worthed. Like #Matrix or #XMPP, communications should not depend on a #SPOF in some #BigTech silo.

The bulk of all traffic is concentrated around the area of #NoKings downtown.
The #mesh is certainly doing its job right now.
