@sashin @graves501 @thejessiekirk All of the degoogled Android projects are riding on Google funded development and cannot survive without it. The only real alternative is #LinuxMobile. Now we have a decent-spec usable device for non-technical users, the #FLX1s from @furilabs at a pretty good price (currently $499).

For tech-savvy users, true Linux devices like the #LibertyPhone or #Librem5 with #PureOS, #Mobian or #postmarketOS (or flashed on a supported Android phone) can also work as a daily driver and replace Android for nearly all important stuff.

So, because google gonna goog, it looks like I've got ~6 months to figure out how to get a working Linux phone.

What's the best affordable option these days?

If you're gonna suggest a phone that costs $1000, don't bother. I am a regular person who doesn't have that kind of money available for a phone.

I maintain that while this app ecosystem shines best on GNOME (whether on a laptop, desktop, or phone), there would be a ton of value in getting it in front of Android users; a long-term path towards them actually using Linux on mobile once it’s ready for “normies.”

Getting these apps on Android feels far more urgent to me than getting Android apps on Linux phones today.
