The "Walkaway Stack" video is online now! ✨
https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/J3FLC3-walkaway-stack/
It's a VERY SHORT fragment of the series I did recently at @offline in Berlin.
Hopefully it's useful as a little intro into the p2p space and it's gnarly problems!

Are you curious about off-grid messaging?
Join at 7pm CET today as @b_n (Tech workers coalition) livestreams how they're setting up a LoRa board using Meshcore
During this livestream, you’ll get a step-by-step walkthrough of:
- Setting up a LoRa board
- Installing Meshcore firmware & app
- Sending a first message
livestream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5e98BbMBeE
part of a collaboration between @techwerkers and @extinctionrebellionnl 🫶

Mike @mmasnick: " #Jack sort of vibe-coded over a weekend, I guess, a #mesh network system called #BitChat. I didn't realize it used #Nostr under the hood…"
@rabble: "It uses #Bluetooth as the primary messaging thing of discovering people. I'm a bit involved with it… We now know through looking at the App Store stuff for BitChat… we can see when a country is having a crisis because all of a sudden the BitChat installs spike up.
…today we were on a call where we were like, "What's going on in #Brazil?" Huh? Because two or three days ago, the installs spiked up and Brazil became the number one country for BitChat."

So much talking about #digitalSovereignty.
Sustainable sovereignty does not come from switching from a US techbro corporation to a closed European alternative. Proper #decentralization, like the fediverse, is a good step.
But real sovereignty comes from rethinking and questioning the very foundations of our IT infrastructure, with its central servers, IP addresses, or TCP/IP protocols.
#Reticulum is such an approach to think one step further, implementing uncentralizability and real resilience, where individuals stay in control of their identities by cryptographic proofs built into the protocol itself.
I appreciate that developers like Mark think deeply about such things. Read the philosophical essay “Zen of Reticulum“:

This was an interesting problem to work on (back in 2017): A visualization of a path planner for 3D printing (FDM) a single layer/mesh structure of a multi-layer textile. Two setups of the same path strategy which optimized for longest continuous sub-paths and minimum rapids (distance without filament extrusion) between sub-paths. The planner supported six strategies in total, incl. optimizing for straight sub-paths and minimum amounts of "recent" crossings (to allow filament to cool down prior to crossing existing sub-paths)...
Submitted here for #genuary18: Unexpected path. Draw a route that changes direction based on one very simple rule.
