The fact that this still isn't on the main site sure is something as well. Surely subscribers who are not on social media are entitled to know that their money goes to finance the X Premium subscriptions for the MacStories team
@TechConnectify could your mystery cold water experience be due to the short run of hot water pipe exposed in the utility closet getting chilled?
Our heat pump water heater is just below the water line from the street with the exhaust blowing directly on it. Sometimes when the water heater has been running but we haven't been using any water for a while, there will be brief surprise extra cold tap water after a delay.
Great video!

It's been a tough few years for MacStories.
An explanation of why we resumed posting on X, and what comes next:
@viticci Thanks for making a statement about this, but the decision still doesn't sit well with me. I hope you continue to be active here.
I was a guest on David Gerard's podcast. We talked about "AI" and what happens after the bubble.
It was some great fun!

Also it was such an honor to be on @davidgerard's podcast given he's kind of the Patron Saint of Crypto and AI criticism.
Ukraine's spirit is the founding spirit of Europe.
In the days leading up to its 35th Independence Day, we stand resolutely with Ukraine.
Today and for as long as it takes.
@EUCommission I understand the message of unity you're trying to send with this, but you're inviting a lot of russian propagandists into the thread here like this lol. But yes, slava ukraini, and may the war be over soon so that people stop needlessly dying on both sides.

@afewbugs @moonrabbit right now, it shows your comment and a link to the post.

This is just outstanding work, deeply rooted in talking to the community and solving pain points users are facing every day. This is such a great step forward.
@scottjenson It is just me or is there anyone else that dislikes the huge border radius designs?
It started with crypto sites and took off with iOS quick drawer I think. Now it's in Android and most AI sites.
To me it just looks off, unaligned or a bad taste.
Our "50 Shades of Modern" exhibition is now open and I just got my first look. My favorite things are often the ones with special physical qualities--here, an abandoned early American edition of Fanny Hill used as wastepaper in binding, an erasable ivory pocket calendar, a trompe l'oeil drawing of letters in a notebook, and an instruction book on sewing with a miniature model shirt. https://library.harvard.edu/exhibits/50-shades-modern

Two parties may share a secret communication on one occasion,
and then a little later one of them may want to send a confidential message to a third party. That is, the "alliances" - who is sharing a secret with whom - may be continually shifting. It might be impractical always to be exchanging keys with all possible confidential correspondents.
What does a "randomly generated" prime number mean? Well,

This highlights one of the big problems with LLMs for code generation.
If a thing has been done often enough that there are are loads of examples of it for an LLM to train on, you probably shouldn't be doing it again. You should be using some abstraction over the thing and not copying and pasting it.
If a thing is rare enough that it has been done a handful of times in the training set, there's a good chance that the LLM output will meet the legal definition of a derived work, you may be accidentally violating a license / infringing copyright.
If a thing is so rare that there are no examples in the training set, the LLM will probably produce something that looks right. There is even a chance that it is right. Good luck.
@david_chisnall I have similar thoughts about estimates. If you’re writing software so similar to previous work that you can give good estimates, you should be building more libraries instead.
"Babe... you can't stay here at the full moon. I'm going too change."
"I'm not afraid. I know you won't hurt me."
"That's not the problem."
"...?"
"When I'm a wolf... I'm dumb. Really dumb."
"That doesn't sound like a--"
"My last girlfriend? I tried to bring her stick as a present, and I couldn't get it through the door, because I didn't get that I could turn my head sideways, so I just sat in the yard all night, howling."
"Oh, hon..."
"And then the SPCA tranqued me."
