"Data Rescue Project Launches New Portal."

The Data Rescue Project (#DRP) just launched the DRP Portal to supersede its spreadsheet-based Data Rescue Tracker.

"As of June 2025, DRP volunteers and other organizations have rescued over 1,100 public datasets from 80+ government offices…Built by volunteers with support from New America and using JKAN, a lightweight, backend-free open data portal, the DRP Portal is a centralized, searchable hub, integrating datasets from multiple rescue efforts such as Public Environmental Data Partners, Safe Guarding Research & Culture, ICPSR, and more. The Portal makes it easy to discover rescued datasets by government offices sharing the data, topic, and more."

Science, researchers and research communities increasingly need to be resilient to threats and actual incursions relating to budget, academic freedom, safety in the public arena, availability of science databases and infrastructures and more. We created this framework to inspire communities in their resilience. It is quite generic, so needs to be customised to specific contexts and threats. #safeguardingresearch #defendresearch #resilience #academnicfreedom @RShetty

A visualization of resilience strategies connecting prevention to potential threats, protection to actual threats, resistance to encounters/attacks, withstanding to incursions and repair to destruction. For the prevention strategy we suggest mutual interest and agreements/contracts. For protection we suggest (double) walls and sovereignty/control. For resistance we suggest action/fighting back and in/external solidarity. For withstanding we suggest elasticity and redundancy. For repair we suggest jugaad (=hindi for 'make do') and resources. @helenczerski Yes, it's infuriating, but we must keep fighting! Use our new toolkit for contacting elected officials to demand they #DefendResearch. Make calls with our script & background information (with testimonials from #researchers), then share with your networks and ask them to do the same! https://www.defendresearch.org/take-action/toolkits-for-action

7/ For example, I see many #SocialMedia posts on these topics but not much convergence in the #hashtags. #Trump, #USPol, and #USPolitics are common but they're not specific to these topics. We need to supplement them with tags that are more specific.

#DefendResearch is new with the Feb 13 Declaration to Defend Research. (Disclosure: I'm a co-author.)
