@evan I think this is a really interesting question and I think we’re roughly aligned. I’m in the category right now of “I personally have too much money and need to make that number go down, responsibly”. (I know, I know, people are happy to help with that).

I’m not too worried about capital that is productively invested. Like, Bezos owns a bunch of Amazon stock, ok. But tax him if he takes out loans against it. Tax the shit out of real estate to dissuade empty houses or vacant lots. Etc.

Today I want to share a TestFlight for a new app I’m working on. I’m very excited about it & what it can hopefully be to people. In short I think we need more apps that bring us joy and surprise. I made the journaling app I think can do just that & it’s called Timefall. It’s centered around journaling to your future self. I wrote up a blog post about it as well going into detail. Mon univesrité veut mettre en place un budget participatif. C'est fort louable, mais on me demande un outil pour faire ça en ligne. Je cherche du libre et je suis tombé sur deux trucs :
- decidim, qui n'a pas l'air mal (développé par une boîte française qui semble avoir une vraie communauté, notamment de devs)
- democraciaos, fait par des argentins; Pas maml sur le papier, mais mal documenté.
Vous avez des expériences avec ces outils ? Vous en voyez d'autres ?

X11 with Motif widgets running on a GIGANTIC 19 inch Sun workstation monitor

The amber monochrome screens on an old VT420 terminal.

My old giant trackball from like 2004 that was about the size of a pool cue and a really comfortable hand rest.

The white 11 inch MacBook from like 2003.

The 2013 series of MacBook Pros. Flawless.

The golden age of Lenovo ThinkPads, including the little X1s that were such great little low power workhorses.

Flip phones. Seriously. My old ultraruggedized Casio flip was such a great device.

LaTeX's default typesetting output. I love that I can get it with Markdown and pandoc now.

ANSI animations and Operation Overkill II on BBS doors over a 2400 baud modem.

EDIT: OH. And workstations from like 1996-2004 that were super well designed for field service. Easy to open and service. LOVE.

@rolle kiitos vertaisuudentunteesta. Mulle tehtiin kyllä paljon mukautuksia kun olin vielä töissä. Niin työnkuvan kuin työaikaankin. Mun lähiesihenkilö on aivan mahtava tyyppi ja teki kyllä kaikkensa että pystyisin jatkamaan töissä. Mutta valitettavasti mun tilanne on niin vaikea, että en siihenkään pystynyt ja pitkä saikku. Lopulta työnantaja vaati työkykyarvion ja onneksi eläkepäätös tuli samaan aikaan, niin työsuhde päättyi musta kivammin eläkkeeseen kuin työsuhteen purkuun mun kyvyttömyyden takia.
