There's no feeling like the productivity* which comes from *having* to be productive. 😌

I've begun to hate "feeling inspired” and then working on a project, because such bursts of passion are rare and fleeting and hard to rely on.

I'd much rather drag my ass into a planning session for a project because *I'm a goddamn professional* and get creative work done *because I have to*. I can't afford the luxury of writer's block.

* Note: this isn't about hustle culture, but rather habitual routine.

Correcting for inflation, by the end of 2026, we will have spent more on AI than we spent building the entire Interstate Highway System and the transcontinental railroads (all four of them) combined.

At some point, society needs to be asking what the benefit-to-cost value is to all this, because we could just tax all this money from billionaires and do stuff with it that’s actually useful.

@neil fun story: when I was 15 I registered askjeves.co.uk, copied the site and made it respond with “Piss off, I’m busy” to any question. They threatened to sue my parents, I was obviously terrified so immediately transferred the domain. Their lawyers later confessed it was the funniest thing they’d seen. I was not popular with my parents for a while.

It was a journey.
