Clinging to volcanic rock at Bandelier, this cactus thrives in a vertical garden most plants wouldn’t dare.
If you enjoy unexpected encounters with nature, follow along — and feel free to share with someone who loves the desert Southwest.

I spent yesterday watching some games in the National Softball League at #FarnhamPark just north of #Slough. Of course I took some time off to inspect the weeds' Why would anyone neglect to do that? Common Mallow and Catsear growing on an earth mound around one of the car parks. Much of the ground is football, rugby and softball pitches so a splash of colour is welcome. #WildflowerHour #Buckinghamshire#Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

A yellow flower with lots of petals on the end of a long stem. Other stems each have one unopened flower bud on the end.

A large pink flower with 5 long petals.

Star images from my favourite building site in #Bristol this week were Ox-eye Daisy, which has suddenly come out in flower, dozens of them at once, and Wild Carrot which isn't open yet but looks really spectacular while still in bud. #WildflowerHour#Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

An unopened flower which will be large, flat and white when open. The green structures which will be under the flower when open and then wrap around the seed head when it forms can be seen easily at this stage.

A flower shaped like a daisy but much larger, with a yellow centre and white petals in a ring round the edge.

My front yard is starting to look at its best. Although my car might disagree as I'm starting to struggle to find a space to park it in. Beaked Hawksbeard more widespread than last year, Cleavers showing off it's tiny, almost-invisible, flowers, and Red Campion taking over a plant pot near the one its ancestors were originally planted in. #Swindon #WildflowerHour#Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

Two pink flowers growing in front of a breeze-block wall of the type that might, for example, divide someone's front yard from their neighbours'.

A plant with bristly green leaves and a small white flower with 4 petals arranged in a cross shape. Each petal is so pointed as to be almost triangular.

A cluster of yellow flowers, each shaped like a slightly smaller dandelion, on branching stems.
