In the #Python Discord, someone was trying to understand how Python code is executed without ever being turned into native CPU instructions. So I wrote a full implementation of a tiny programming language: compiled to bytecodes that get interpreted. 300 lines of Python.

It has been realized a long time ago that a possible solution would be to find a set of randomly generated problems and show that if there is an algorithm which finds a solution of a random instance with a positive probability, then there is also an algorithm which solves one of the famous unsolved problems in the worst case.
i'm not sure if this is wrong but it's incredibly misleading:
- randomly generated "problems" (i.e. parameters) is a terrible idea. your randomness should be the inputs to the problem
- this actively obscures the existence of algorithms which determine whether a given problem is an easy kind
i think it may be correct technically but no IBM paper is ever just correct. that place is just not a source of truth
anyway now they've rolled this out during wartime very cool
The solution. #grickledoodle #robots #dystopia #overlords #cartoon #art #drawing #funny #humor #scifi
Wait no, it would have been seven years next month. So six years. That's not so bad then.
@scattapilla @tamazon Oh, just wait. It gets worse.
Says the man who’s already had one knee replaced.
In fact we give a random problem: find a short vector in a certain class of random Iattices (whose elements can be generated together with a short vector in them), whose solution in the mentioned sense would imply the solution of a group of related “famous” problems in the worst case.

For.. reasons.. I am making a wealth inequality playlist. I want songs that aren't TOO aggro and could be background-ish at an event, catchy, topical, without making themselves the center of attention. Here's what I have so far. Please parse this list and suggest along these lines, if you like.
- The O’Jays - For the Love of Money
- The Flying Lizards - Money (That’s What I Want)
- Pink Floyd - Money
- Pulp - Common People
- William Shatner / Ben Folds - Common People

Incredibly annoying to come across an interesting looking YouTube channel and it turns out it’s all AI-scripted and narrated videos with all footage lifted from other YouTube videos.
It’s like finding a cute new restaurant and they serve you a plate of sugar.

Uruguay transitioned to 98% renewable energy in 10 years without loans from World Bank, IMF or massive spending of their national budget. The country is now near net-zero.
They accelerated the transition through “feed-in tariffs.” (See article below)
Now can we do this everywhere?

I do believe tho, having spent a lifetime moving back and forth across the border at Detroit, that it is highly unlikely there were ever be a scenario where Americans support the annexation of Canada against Canada's will.
It would be different if it was a willing compact. We like Canadians a lot and think of them as more a brother than a neighbor.
But I do genuinely believe there would be a response, if Trump took over Canada by force. Enough of a response to stop it? That I am unsure about.

Heartbreaking! "At least 30 people have been killed after a mound of rubbish at a major waste site collapsed on to nearby homes in Guinea's capital Conakry, the government has said.
Another 22 people were injured, including six seriously, in the city's Dar-es-Salam area."
One woman told local media her five children had died in the disaster. There are fears that the death toll will rise further."
