Notably, fq_codel's original author, Dave Taht was one of the last remaining developers who is skeptical of Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) (although he supported it back when implementing fq_codel) and similar works like L4S. He said it is unpredictably risky on the public Internet, because conventional congestion control and active queue management algorithms were not designed for ECN. In mixed flows they may interact badly, causing uncontrolled congestion. In 2018 he started the ecn-sane campaign to understand it better. Unfortunately he passed away in 2025. So the ECN side-effect problem will, in his words, "a jobs program for theorists, Cloudflare and others" for a decade.
Nice, I have one 😊 I use it more often than my x61 honestly. It's the tablet version though (which is my weird requirement for laptops)
