@chrisphin Do you have, or could borrow, a spare phone? If you could transfer to another phone in advance, the duff phone has done its job and can be wiped.

You could even buy a cheap device from Apple for the purpose and return it within the window. Or head to Cex!

@mattblaze I also remember it, but I also think of the girls school bombed by the US not long ago, and the bombs that are still falling. We really are spoiled in this part of the world. I wish a lesson had been learned.

Visto il nuovo telefono pieghevole. Per me sarebbe interessantissimo, finalmente uno schermo touch dove, probabilmente, non ho le limitazioni che ha negli attuali dispositivi Braille screen input (la modalità di input con più dita che simula l'alfabeto braille in scrittura), usando la tecnologia multi-touch.

Adesso devo fare i salti mortali per scrivere il cancelletto, il segno più, l'uguale, l'asterisco, le parentesi graffe... non potrei permettermi di scrivere codice (o script) al volo sulla macchina attuale, che è un 17 pro. Quasi sicuramente andrò a vedere questa macchina almeno per valutare come è fatta, perché a conti fatti, sostituirebbe in tutto e per tutto la mia attuale configurazione (telefono più tablet) perché sarebbe tutto in uno.

Ma il prezzo è molto, troppo, alto. Anche con l'iva al 4 per cento. Chi mi legge sappia che per me queste macchine non sono telefoni per chi fa il galletto, ma ausili a tutti gli effetti. Quindi una volta che decido per un investimento di questo genere, ci penso sempre più volte.

Per essere la prima versione però, vale la pena vederlo ma non spendere tutti quei soldi. Non per quest'anno, almeno; una cifra così io l'ho spesa per il surface che è un pc a tutti gli effetti. Ma così, ho la netta impressione di spendere tanto, per un telefono-computer su cui manca comunque qualcosa.

Ci fosse un telefono ibrido del genere con Windows, quest'anno almeno, avrei meno dubbi. Ma così, no. Poi avendolo cambiato nel 2025, troverei assolutamente INUTILE cambiarlo una volta l'anno. Superfluo.

Kind of a weird #Fediverse question: do any platforms in this space offer an API for user account registration?

One hypothetical idea I’ve been kicking around is the notion of “pre-registration” for the Fediverse. Basically, a person fills out their profile, imports data archives from other networks, and maybe even finds their mutuals somehow. When they’re done, their account gets created on a random vetted instance, data gets backfilled, and follow requests get sent out to the mutual contacts they’ve found.

I think it’s a good idea, and possibly a good showcase for both the #ActivityPub C2S API and possibly LOLA. However, I don’t think any particular platform supports all of the required pieces yet.
