Good news: my mobile carrier is replacing my iPhone (which has developed a dodgy power button)
Less good news: they insist on a courier swapover, so I’ll have to back the old phone up to iCloud, wipe the it on the day the courier is due, and pray the transfer works 😱

@chrisphin I always BYOD with direct purchases from Apple, so I’m afraid I have nothing but side-eye for your carrier not letting you have 72 hours or something for transfer.
That said, I have multiple times done as you describe without *major* issue. Apps and settings get restored. Be aware of things like files, other cloud services, recovery codes, etc and have old-school copies of precious stuff outside of the Appleverse.
If you have a Mac, consider a full backup to that, not just cloud.

That's messed up. I recently had a hardware issue with my Pixel 8 phone for which I had purchased the protection plan from Verizon. They shipped me a refurbished replacement and I had about 5 days to send the defective phone back. Then the Pixel/Android migration process was simple, not too time consuming and flawless. I hardly knew I swapped phones. I shipped the old phone the next day.

@chrisphin Do you have, or could borrow, a spare phone? If you could transfer to another phone in advance, the duff phone has done its job and can be wiped.
You could even buy a cheap device from Apple for the purpose and return it within the window. Or head to Cex!
