Now's as good a time as any to make sure you're all enrolled for that: https://enrolment.vec.vic.gov.au

Vote early, vote often, vote like we care about everyone and not just some in-group. #vicpol

Only 3 percent of Americans are on Russia's side. Three!

If Trump really wanted to win the midterms, the easiest job in the world would be to side with the clear majority who want Ukraine to win.

And yet Trump is aiming to please the 3 percent — AND claiming if he does not win the midterms, it must be election fraud.

Putin must really have some nasty stuff on the US president.

I can't directly favorite or boost https://snac.tesio.it/giacomo/p/1792074929.102921 by @giacomo for some strange reason, but it's great. My only quibble is where to put Common Lisp or Racket. Even though I love Lisp, both seem quite complex. Are they really simpler than Go? Anyways, here's the post:

I strongly encourage you to use anything but a language that can be compiled by different totally independent compilers/interpreters.

My favourite are #Oberon and #C.

#Myrddin and #Hare are potential candidates (despite having one single implementation) because of their current simplicity.

Some might even argue for #Lua, a #Lisp (a #Scheme?) or, god forbid, a #BASIC.

Any language complex enough that it can only be compiled by one or two corporate-backed compilers are going to backfire on your users in the long (or even short) run.

#Rust is way too complex.

So is #Python. And #Zig (that still requires #LLVM).

#Go is from #Google, so I avoid anything written in it.

Happy to share that I will be attending in person at the Fraser River Literary Festival’s Local Authors Bookfair event in Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada, on Sunday, November 1. If you’re curious about ecofiction writing, stop by and say hi! I will be there with copies of all three of my novels for sale.

It’s an icky thing for Tim to donate to this out of his personal cash, but for this to be an official business policy is appalling.
