I see Austin Butler got cast in the “Miami Vice” reboot, which is too bad as I liked “Miami Vice” and find Austin Butler’s face deeply annoying
The Miami Vice reboot is being directed by ‘80s reboot specialist Joseph Kosinski, which is how I learned that this is a thing that exists

NexPhone, a Pocket PC-Smartphone Running Windows 11 Linux and Android, Launching in 2027
Nex Computer is the company behind the NexPhone, an upcoming smartphone that doubles as a pocketable computer running Android, Linux, and Windows 11. While the project was first announced a whole 14 years ago, Nex Computer recently published a development blog update revealing a Q1 2027 launch, indicating that the NexPhone will launch around March 2027.
In the new system, someone with a 2 doesn’t know if they’re in that 1-3 range or in the 4-5 range, and someone with a 3 doesn’t know if they’re in the low or high range.
This adds a huge amount of uncertainty to the business of academic training. You may not know that the US taxpayer pays to train scientists but we do, and it’s made us the worldwide leader of science in many areas.
So if you are in the US, please comment here:

Mars rover Perseverance finally made a move today to set a new record for the distance traveled by a rover on a distant planet - 45.22 km.
It had stayed put in its previous location for 26 days exploring the “Lac de Charmes” area.
This breaks the record held by rover Opportunity, which took almost 3 times as long to cover that distance.
Congratulations Percy!

No #DataCenters in #Minneapolis! PLS SHARE! #Minnesota law says that cities can only enact temporary moratoriums—not permanent bans—on data centers. Minneapolis’ moratorium will expire on 11/21 and we need zoning regulations so restrictive that they act as an effective ban on the big data centers.

Mastodon's recent UX changes
"Over the weekend, Ukraine carried out a co-ordinated drone strike against several major Russian data centres. This completely decimated Yandex, their Google equivalent which controls more than 70% of search traffic in the country, and has reportedly resulted in a dramatic fall in bot traffic from the Yandex network.
As per the bot analysts at Tom’s Hardware, bot traffic from the Yandex network has dropped to just 0.4% of the maximum number of HTTP requests recorded in the past two weeks. That means activity from automated, Russian-hosted accounts has been virtually eliminated on social media.
There has already been a strong and significant impact on bot traffic in countries such as France and Germany. David Colon, a French information operations researcher, has noted a huge difference in the performance of narratives generated by the Russia-linked information operations group, Storm-1516.
The silencing of the bots also appears to have caused a dramatic drop in activity around far-right German party, the AfD.
Here in the UK, a similar thing may be happening.
On X, social media posts from Reform figures seem to have taken an engagement hit in the wake of the great bot silencing..."

25% sold out as of now.
Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day. A reminder that Columbus was a genocidal fascist and human trafficker, and deserves no honor or recognition. Instead, here's why now 30+ states have adopted recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day, and why we need to make it all 50.

We are proud to announce that masto.nyc now has its own Android App! This is a fork from the mainline Mastodon that is a bit more tailored to the Masto NYC experience. Give it a try and we would love to hear any feedback!

- This app is complementary to the greater Fediverse app ecosystem. Using it isn't, and never will be a requirement to use masto.nyc
- iOS is also in the works
