If you are a #MastoAdmin#FediAdmin, you may want to purge a.gup.pe from your server.

In Mastodon, go into admin > Moderation > Federation > Add new domain block. Create one for the domain name "gup.pe" (subdomains are included) with "suspend" severity. Once added, go into the details for the newly added block and you'll find the "Purge" button right at the bottom of the page.

⚠️ ⚠️ Once the domain is purged, the list of severed follows will no longer be available to local users. ⚠️ ⚠️

STATEMENT ON fediverse.au's COMPLIANCE WITH AGE-RESTRICTED SOCIAL MEDIA REGULATORY ADVICE FROM THE AUSTRALIAN e-SAFETY COMMISSIONER

I have performed a self-assessment of the fediverse.au instance of Mastodon, for which I am the Administrator, and determined that the platform IS an age-restricted social media platform.

The steps taken (by me) on this platform to ensure that all users are above age 16 are:

👉 Sign-ups to the platform are open with manual review. That means EVERY sign-up is reviewed by me personally before the account is enabled on the platform.

👉 I do a cross-check of the email address to ensure it is valid, and linked to a staff member at a research or academic institution or to an organisational area specifically.

👉 Where the email address does not meet the criteria for this instance, the sign-up is rejected.

👉 Content on this platform is actively moderated, but given the a) small user base and b) that each person is representing their organisation, I have not had to moderate any content as yet.

👉 Upon approval, each registered user receives an email further outlining the rules for the instance. As yet, I have not had to take any enforcement action.

This work is taken on a voluntary basis, and accounts on this instance are not charged for.

Question for the #MastoAdmin / #LoadBalancer / #Hosting / #Technology collective hive mind:

I'm re-building a lot of the architecture for my Mastodon instance as well as some other services. Everything will be VM's in Proxmox (Or LXC Containers but for the purposes of this they're effectively the same thing). I need a highly available load balancer solution (Preferably with a nice way to sync the configuration across multiple instances of the load balancer software that isn't just a git repo ideally) where I can define a series of IP Addresses and ports to map to specific FQDN's. LetsEncrypt support is also important.

Right now I'm using NGINX (Or a series of NGINX's in front of one another) but it's not the nicest experience and I'm aware there may well be better options out there so keen to know what the standard is / best option might be.

I am aware of HAProxy but haven't used it before and have looked at Traefik but it looks like that's more for docker containers / K8's..?

I am still getting posts in my timeline about people being unsure whether the mastodon "verification" scam is a genuine message.

I have just used the announcement function on my server to notify my user in addition to a post to hopefully reach and warn more users about these fakes.
