@lana I'm not sure. My impression is that most glam journal papers don't propose anything very surprising, they just use an expensive new experiment that generates results consistent with what everyone already thinks.
@stux Looks great!
@mheadd I get the same feeling from car self-driving efforts (Tesla's in particular): we want our robot to drive better than humans, so let's train it on human driving.
Well, at least Caddy is only eating 99% CPU now!
I guess I will disable forwarding the logs to VictoriaLogs for the time being.

Problem. 4/7
It's still absurdly pretty (and kinda cold)
The dogs love the snow, the goats and llama don't seem to mind it, and the chickens are so offended they won't come out of their coop.
@sundogplanets Ah, sounds like the farm animals are having mixed reactions to the snow! Llama drama unfolding in the snow. How's the rest of the farm prep going?
utilitarian in the streets / deontologist in the sheets (I follow arbitrary rules strictly because it reduces decision fatigue)
@Daojoan really
The Trolley Problem is unrealistic because it assumes I have the executive function to pull the lever
@Daojoan Hello pretty 😍
@whitequark 25 years ago we used to make fun of Oracle because it needed raw block devices and kernel fuckery or something.
every time i read something about fsync() i end up feeling more and more that postgres just opening the NVMe device via virtio in userspace is the way to go if you want your data to reliably reach the drive
Empower young people to make BETTER decisions than we've made: support critical thinking skills!

How do we get Liz Oyer onto Mastodon? Being the former pardon attorney for the US Department of Justice, she is a unique expert in US politics.
She is truly an important figure in the fight against corruption, and has some seriously deep insight about Trump's crimes.
Months after he took over from Justin Trudeau, critics are accusing Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney of betraying the fight against climate change. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/environment/2025/11/29/energy/canada-pm-climate-critics/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #environment #energy #climatechange #canada #energy #oil #gas #emissions #markcarney
I'm considering adding language to @xunit that says something to the effect of "no AI is used or permitted in this project." It's a political stance of sorts, but one I feel strongly about, to the point of finding a way to say "do not send me a PR if you didn't write the code yourself." I wonder if I can amend the CLA for my project to require a legal certification of this.
Oh wait. It's been like a whole week since I listened to "Walking in L.A." by Missing Persons. Let me fix that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQF7FDeUePA
