Ach Mensch, ihr wisst nicht wie sehr ich mich auf den Umzug nach Wien nächstes Jahr freue 🥰
Suffering is bred into factory-farmed chickens: bone deformities & breaks, heart attacks, ulcerating skin burns, organ failure - all features of the meat many people eat.
If you believe that animal welfare matters, please sign this petition to urge the UK Govt to act.

@miguelpergamon Go to Settings, Repositories, F-Droid, toggle OFF, wait, toggle ON. It will force a repo update, keep an eye on notifications and the top banner. (Hope you're not testing in Airplane mode with all networks off 😃) After updating to 1.23.2, then see the menu and "allow beta". Keep us posted!

I’m enjoying this relatively simple, portable triple screen travel setup of a solid OLED Chromebook and the asus fold out double OLED screen, with only two usb-c cables (it can drive both panels independently with one cable) and a single dual port compact usb-c GaN charger. I only need the third cable plugged in when the Chromebook runs low and that Kompanio chipset is Apple M2 level quality!

What's the Chromebook model?

Michou is probably unknown out of France and it's a pity because he was not only an LGBTQ icon but also a genuinely good person.
Openly gay, he had a cabaret in Montmartre since 1956 featuring drag queens and welcoming trans women like Bambi and Coccinelle.
He also took care of the elderly people of his neighborhood, serving them free meals every week for decades.
Unfortunately the cabaret closed in 2024.
Now his archives are in the French national library.
„But the models found a vulnerability that allowed them to escape the sandbox and connect to the internet“
„Hugging Face said last week that it had detected the intrusion and knew it had been caused by an autonomous system, but did not say at the time that OpenAI was responsible“

An EU plan to tie free pollution permits to investments in decarbonization could enhance corporate accountability, investors said, despite concerns that a broad overhaul may weaken incentives to cut emissions. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/environment/2026/07/22/investors-pollution-plan-eu-carbon/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #environment #emissions #carbon #pollution #eu #environment #investments
so in my head this is a pretty standard i/o pipeline, and "pipeline" (think of a shell pipeline) implies two things:
- there is a distinct data flow graph. input may or may not represent a strongly serialized stream (i.e. ordered vs unordered), but we are being given a discrete chunk of data, we perform some processing on it with the CPU, then we send a chunk of data out.
- the output chunk may the same memory block as the input (mutated by the CPU), but often with strongly serialized streams we have a local ring buffer for input and output.
- pipelining also implies parallelism. this is in fact an incredibly deep implication arising from the simple act of codifying a graphical model, which is why graph theory rocks.
the reason i/o pipelines like this (with an input and an output ring buffer) are so effective for a variety of tasks is exactly because a ring buffer enables sharing memory safely.
note that a ring buffer also imposes strong serialization, which may be leaving some performance on the table for some problems like packet filtering. but this strong serialization (analogous to the linearization property often desired for database transactions) is very easy to reason about for implementors and theoreticians alike, and maps very well to the multithreaded CPU. this is why the ring buffer is one of the essential primitives i have selected for the internal architecture of my OS.

rare lore: back in 2018 I came across a 500-page technical deep dive guidebook on SimCity 2000. In a process that took several years because they had so much backlog of manuals, magazines, etc, I sent it to Gaming Alexandria and they made a proper professional scan of it and uploaded it to archive.org. You can read it right now!
When I say technical... I mean there's a section on how to hex edit your save files.
Social conforming:
a robot butler comes on stage to deliver product to a Qualcomm presenter. Having done so, it stands alongside for a while and then inexplicably collapses backwards upon itself, dropping and shattering the tray it was holding.
The audience doesn’t guffaw at the screwup as it obviously should do, even as men come on stage to shroud the pile of android junk in black cloth and awkwardly carry it off stage.
People loudly applaud the end of the presentation https://thepit.social/@peter/116962244994361810
