I have had an ill-advised idea for an adventure, but it will require planning. I recall someone here posting a tool for planning trips with a Deutschlandticket but, of course, I didn’t bookmark it.
Any recommendations for such a tool?

When you confront people who have on spy glasses with cameras in them to ask if they are recording you or your children it's incredibly effective at getting them to put them away.
It's mostly possible to tell if someone is using a phone or a camera to record something, even from a distance.
Wearables are trying to make a new permission structure where you might not know what is being recorded.
Spy cameras have existed for decades and they have always been creepy.

14k so far on my little solo jaunt. Lovely. Very affirming. Being at one with Mother Gaia. Becoming part of the ecosystem. Moving through the space as though a cell. Interacting with other cells - affecting (effecting?) microcosmic change. At one with the machine.
Interestingly - sticking with my personification of nature being a symbiotic system (which of course it is) - You'd be forgiven for thinking that England is essentially just a series of forest corridors. A vast secret network of tunnels, like leafy veins connecting all the areas of countryside. The weather is warm but muggy. Post-rain but also pre-rain. It feels like some shit's gonna go DOWN. And so I've made my way to a forest cafe and just ordered some food and a couple of ciders and am going to gather myself before the second leg of my journey. Lovely stuff. I bid you well, fellow travellers. X

@neil No, but I'm just in the early stages of VLAN segmentation. We were going to put a concerted effort into that this week. Ima gonna circle back when I get them installed and maybe follow you down that same rabbit hole :)
As of today, I believe NetBSD is one of the most important operating systems to consider for your deployments.
With hardware costs rising dramatically, portability and efficiency have become more important than ever. If prices do not come down, we will probably have to adapt and create new kinds of hardware, at lower cost. And NetBSD, by its very nature, will be very easy to port to that hardware.
Does it run on your modern PC? Maybe. Maybe not.
But it runs on your server. On your VPS. On your SBC. On your old computer, which may still have a lot to give, especially if you want to keep ownership of your own data.

No jails or containerisation? smolBSD has already shown that a reduced NetBSD kernel can be so small that it can be started in milliseconds, while also adding the security benefits of virtualisation. A different concept, certainly. But one that already exists and can already be used.
Linux itself has opened up to AI. That is a choice I will not comment on.
But from now on, for those who do not want LLM-generated code in their operating system, there are essentially two options: fork Linux (!!!), or choose something different.
And NetBSD is that something different.
Already in 2024:
“...code generated by a large language model or similar technology (e.g. ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) is presumed to be tainted (i.e. of unclear copyright, not fitting NetBSD's licensing goals) and cannot be committed to NetBSD.”

@stefano I am going to attempt to install NetBSD on a Lenovo T14 or, maybe, a 9th gen X1 Carbon. I'm not sure how well this will go but I'm going to give it a go.
