#Degoogled Maps? Yes, it's possible. 📍🗺️
The Big Tech does not need to track your every step 👉use a Google Maps alternative instead.

@Tutanota I have been using CoMaps since it came out
@governorkeagan
Routing data doesn't update as quickly as the displayed map.
This page for the OSRM router suggests a typical update frequency of 2 days. Although clicking through the link suggests it may be longer than that currently (timestamps seem to be 31 Dec). Not sure about the other 2 routing engines on osm.org, but they aren't "real time" either.

It is feasible to provide a better open-source, privacy-focused alternative to Google Maps (including online features) if we receive enough donations and community support. This is one of our goals, alongside helping users understand and contribute to OpenStreetMap for everyone's benefit. https://www.makeuseof.com/wanted-to-love-open-source-maps-app-going-back-google/
@organicmaps It is feasible to get more donations if you don't kick people off the team and behave unprofessionally. #CoMaps

So, I can open a gpx file in both OrganicMaps and CoMaps trough the file browser, by tapping the file and choosing to open it in said app. But how can I open a gpx from inside the app?
Tapping the star(s) and then selecting Import Bookmarks and Tracks and choosing a gpx file does not work. Nothing happens!
@da5nsy weekend, and I am on an employer-friendly sick leave at home...
Routing for me in OsmAnd+ works just fine. Tested in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy (my phone is not that old). Yet, when I downloaded the dataset for Greater London, I could not search for the city itself. 😱
The hardest part is the search function itself. I consistently get hits far away sorted ahead of those perfect matches close by. There is definitely room for improvement. 😅
As for 🚂🚃🚃, I fall back to local apps.
I agree how with you, @rupdecat, about the lackluster experience with search.
There are a few tips out there on how to improve this, @da5nsy, but my favorite is supplementing it with #Acastus⁰, which uses Photon elastic search instead.
Works well with any other app you're using, #CoMaps, EveryDoor, etc.
Interesting. I'm using OSM and aCalender anyway.
But as I have to travel in spring a lot and need to update 3 computers to Trixie (Debian) plus one raspi to take care, I chose not to tinker with my phone too soon. However, I will keep this on my priority list.
OSM as in #OpenStreetMap @rupdecat?
Which app do you use? (or do you use it through a browser?)
I'm using #CoMaps but I've found it severely lacking in search and routing so far
For everyone that is disappointed with #Calibre 's decision to introduce LLM bullshit, there's now a Rereading Project, which is going to maintain #Arcalibre, a sustainable fork. Read more about it here: https://wandering.shop/@xgranade/115691478523497546
I wish it was named Excalibre! But that aside, I think it's a good effort. Calibre was a BDFL project, and its author is not the most approachable person. His efforts in creating and maintaining Calibre are appreciated, but one-person systems are very fragile. Rereading Project has a very good mindset - starting with community and governance, instead of rushing headfirst to do code. That's a way chosen by such great projects as #Comaps and #Forgejo, and it pays off greatly.
Please give the project a boost, whether on Fedi, in discussions, or in code!
