I still find it alarming just how quickly Ai-generated "content" has rendered mainstream platforms unusable. YouTube is all slop. Image search is all slop. Legacy social media is all slop. It's like a nuclear carpet bombing has wiped out the internet, and only the humble cockroach that is the fediverse appears resistant.
And yeah, there's slop here, too, and if I see you boost genAi nonsense that's my cue to unfollow, but for the most part this place is alright.
Keep being weird. It works.

We can't control who uses ActivityPub, but we can choose who we federate with!
Giving control to admins, and even users via domain blocks is really amazing, because it transfers the power that used to be limited to corporations, to communities and people who now have the ability to manage it.
@dansup I don't think The Facebooks are any better then The Twitters, but the number of instances defederating Threads is negligible.

@grosser_mensch @fed.brid.gy stripped? I believe Pixelfed has a problem with the actor type, we don't handle non "Person" actors yet.
You should not define yourself by what you hate, what you are against, what you dislike.
Instead define yourself by your passions, your loves, your creations, your discoveries.
I hesitate to say this bluntly, because I know a whole lot of folks on here are actively involved in technical development of one sort or another, and derive both pleasure and a significant part of their identity from that fact. There’s something I think we all need to get clear on, though, and it’s something I myself had to learn the hard way: no tool will liberate us. The achievement of justice cannot be automated, or otherwise outsourced to a technical apparatus of any sort.
You work on tools because that’s what you’re good at, because that’s the way your brain works, because that’s what you enjoy or can get compensated for doing. That’s all as may be. But please, please do not make the mistake of thinking that the tool – any tool, of any sort whatever – will produce “progress.” There is and can be no technical fix for the social-psychological, existential or ontological predicaments that confront us. In the end there is only us, staring back at us from whatever mirror we’ve built.

@rizole Whenever my Bluesky bot posts one of my old mastodon posts, I like to boost it on mastodon because the difference in timestamps makes me happy.
@rizole And sometimes I boost my own posts because I’m responding to another person and others won’t readily see it unless they're also following that other person, so I boost it to push it the feed.
