I don’t want to spell it out too much, but essentially - if Microsoft don’t fight those court orders, you’re going to get a line of private companies and dodgy governments tracking people via Microsoft telemetry. The security teams very much risks causing harms to individuals due to the poor balance on privacy.

(And it is bad. So dreadfully bad. The first time someone gave me a Tim Horton's coffee I felt like a tourist who had travelled half a world away to try "a real American hamburger" and had been handed a McDouble with too much ketchup. Electoral politics since the GFC - and particularly since the public square occupation movements that followed - has been a battle over which political framework will replace the Washington Consensus (another name for the neoliberal project).

Major parties have responded mainly offering us a choice of neoconservatives; Romney or Obama? Trudeau or Carney? Sunak or Starmer? Morrison or Albanese? In Aotearoa, Cluxon or Hipkins. A lot of people now see this for the false choice it is.
