Just been to see The Odyssey. It was very good. Saw it on a big fancy screen so you could see right up Damons nose and whatnot. I suspect it won't be for everyone, but I'm a bit obsessed with old Greek thingamajiggys, and actually own it in original paper format because I am a great big NERD. Having said that there were bits I didn't recognise, but also bits I had imagined very differently that somehow the film did better than my own BRAIN. I'm going to say it's a stone cold classic and Nolan somehow pulled it all together with a single cohesive thread throughout that also unbelievably gave a good social commentary that actually worked. Mainly don't be unkind to women or they'll turn you into a fucking pig. 10/10. A must see.

So the police seized a street-legal e-bike, one that was actually supplied by the city council for this purpose… And the reason being that they tested it by driving the wheels manually????
Police tested Zandi’s bike by lifting the back wheel and spinning the pedals as fast as they could, then making a note of the bike’s display.
The bike was seized as it showed a speed over the limit of 15.5mph.
But the test was flawed, as all it showed was how fast police were manually able to make the wheel turn, not the power of the motor.

You can absolutely make the case for this being scripted, and working backwards from the facts, there is a lot of convenience for OpenAI. The model's supposed power, the fact that the "other models" got in the way of response because of guardrails, etc.
But either there was collusion with the victim, or an assumption that the victim would not respond with a charge of negligence or something else. Big gamble, and quite the conspiracy.
I tend to believe in the cutting power of Hanlon's Razor.

LLVM21 is a stinker and has worse codegen in general, and a bug forced disabled loop auto-vectorization. Turned out to be a blessing: we clearly identified areas we were over-reliant on implicit compiler optimizations and were able to explicitly restructure our code to what we really wanted.
The result is that we now have clean generic SIMD subroutines in places we previously relied on auto-vectorization. And we did it better and as a result produced faster code (see below). Pure ASCII throughput improved more than 20% (30% on Linux) which is insane and is purely because we wrote better SIMD than an auto-vectorizer can. Lit.
We also found it stopped inlining automatically in certain places which destroyed some benchmarks based on real world corpuses. As a result, we now explicitly inline those backed by benchmarks. Wonderful.
"Exotic"-sized integers (e.g. u13) also cause poor LLVM codegen and some performance pitfalls were fixed by adding padding to power-of-two sizes. I know Zig is working on a sema fix for this to avoid LLVM ever seeing these.
Note when I said "in general" above I mean that this was consistently across macOS aarch64, Linux aarch64, and Linux x86_64. Just across the board bad codegen.
Some things slowed down more than can be attributed to noise. I'm looking into that now but they're minor benchmarks. The important ones are parity or better.

I've been trying to find other airsoft clubs, shops, venues, or even individual enthusiasts, but I haven't had any luck. I find it hard to believe that my airsoft club's account is the only airsoft-related account in the entire Fediverse.
Mozilla and, by extension, Firefox have laid out the direction they want to go - and have consistently moved in that direction. There is no redemption arc there, they are not going to turn the ship around - and every week and month that goes by, Firefox gains more slop and drifts further from the visions that founded it.
Projects like Tor Browser and Waterfox are painstakingly disabling / patching out the worst - but every release becomes more expensive, and things do slip through.
@sarahjamielewis I'm pinning an awful lot of hope on Servo, but I don't see anything that guarantees they won't just do the same thing long term. I wish somehow there could be some sort of community project at a Linux sort of scale to make a true FLOSS browser. I guess browsers are so big and complex these days it basically is a Linux-sized project too. *Sigh* That's a problem obviously.
