Just been to see The Odyssey. It was very good. Saw it on a big fancy screen so you could see right up Damons nose and whatnot. I suspect it won't be for everyone, but I'm a bit obsessed with old Greek thingamajiggys, and actually own it in original paper format because I am a great big NERD. Having said that there were bits I didn't recognise, but also bits I had imagined very differently that somehow the film did better than my own BRAIN. I'm going to say it's a stone cold classic and Nolan somehow pulled it all together with a single cohesive thread throughout that also unbelievably gave a good social commentary that actually worked. Mainly don't be unkind to women or they'll turn you into a fucking pig. 10/10. A must see.
@TheBreadmonkey We're going to the posh cinema on Sunday. I only want to read positive reviews. Thanks.
@TheBreadmonkey A long drive to the cinema and I can't be arsed with anything over 2hrs long these days, but that's exactly the kind of review I need to make a point of watching it when it's available on my couch 👍
@TheBreadmonkey You could be a bigger nerd and have it on a number of scroll ls written in Ancient Greek.
That would take up a lot of room in your gaff, however. I do not recommend that.
@TheBreadmonkey I am so upset we're sick, which will likely delay my viewing. Everyone's reactions are so interesting; even the good-faith criticisms seem worthy of rumination.
@TheBreadmonkey I am glad you enjoyed the film. I saw that trailer and promised myself that I would stay away from it. It just seemed so joyless? So washed out in terms of colour? Half of the trailer made it look like it was filmed in Iceland's badlands on a foggy day and not the gorgeous Mediterranean of the Odyssey.
Enough people whose opinions I respect are telling me it's actually a pretty good time.
Maybe I'll wait for a streaming release. I hope my misgivings get proven wrong.
@TheBreadmonkey Also, the armour they wore in the trailers, setting aside historical accuracy, looked so cheaply done like props. Which of course they are. If you don't mind me asking, did it come across like that on the big screen or did it look good?
@TheBreadmonkey Taking my wife next week, going to the 8:30am showing on a Tuesday to get decent seats
