We're entering the final week of fundraising to set up #Perennial - a new housing co-op in NE London.

The project can afford to pay interest, so if you have money sat in a savings account that you'd like to put to better use by ethically investing it - send it our way and we'll happily match the interest rate you were getting.

We need every £ we can to make it happen, and if we surpass our minimum target (🤞) every additional £ we raise reduces our mortgage (which we'd be paying 7.5% on) so that we can more quickly pay off all our debts and start using our surplus to support other new projects.

Ursula K. LeGuin's "Earthsea" cycle is an excellent thing to re-read in your early 40ies, to see how different and still the same it feels in the middle of your life instead of the first quarter.

And this particular edition - hard to hold in your hands, impossible to carry with you, but containing quiet a few extra texts - is something I definitely recommend, too.

This PSF blog post is important, but has a bad title. It sounds like it's going to be a puff piece of PR for Amazon. It's not. It's about how the PSF needs more resources. Read it, and show it to whoever you can.

The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act was reintroduced by Rep. Terri Sewell in March 2025 and by Senator Dick Durbin and Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock in July 2025 and still has not passed.

The short version: Single track gives everyone a shared talk experience. No FOMO, and the ability to for speakers to reference other talks. The Unconference gives a formalized "escape hatch" for people who aren't interested in that specific talk. It naturally clusters the topics not related to the current talk in those slots, and provides an official way for people to find others who care about the same topics as them. It also keeps the content fresh, since Unconference is scheduled day-of.

Hey everyone! Just a quick #introduction for myself:

I’m James (he/him), I’m based in London, and I do a lot of things relating to live coding and crafts.

- I organise workshops and activities around pattern-based things, like lacemaking, live coding and origami, for London Pattern Club.
- I make things using hand knitting and machine knitting, and I dabble in other textile crafts like weaving, crochet and lacemaking.
- I’ve written about crafts and coding for some small press publications (A Yarn And Fibre Publication #2, Softissues).
- I’ve live coded music and visuals under the alias collapse, and I’ve done some teaching and workshop facilitation around live coding for Peckham Digital.
- I currently work as a software developer, and I did my Masters at the Department of Digital Humanities at KCL.
