"About 500 seniors live at Sinai Residences in Boca Raton, Florida, including many Holocaust survivors. Recently, some of them asked if they could hide the building’s Haitian staff in their apartments"
@inquiline Ill and incredibly proud of the patriots. God bless them.

Good move. But too little too late, I'm already on LibreWolf.
This is the first time I switched to a different browser as my daily driver since I switched to Firefox 1.0. And I did this specifically because all the shady "AI" stuff Mozilla keeps insisting on doing.
In the words of Mozilla's CEO:
> Firefox will remain our anchor. It will evolve into a modern AI browser and support a portfolio of new and trusted software additions.

Do not want.
I switched almost a year ago when all this was coming down the pike. Not looking back. Fuck em!
He wasn’t asleep in the laundry hamper. He was just laying in it, entirely unwilling to move when our youngest put some clothes in it when picking up his room.
People complain, but then when organisations actually listen they don't share *that* story.

I may regret this at some point, but I felt the need to put down in writing how I feel about this moment in the tech industry.
It is not kind. You may well be insulted by it. If you are... then you really should question yourself.
The word 'crackdown' is only ever used when the government is doing something morally dubious to impress people who read The Sun.
Let's do this.
@TechConnectify man, Im so proud. This video has to won a real life prize. Give him the Nobel
@jpm oh shit really? I liked the Orange Pi stuff :(
@decryption same, I got a CM5 recently and it’s a fucking beast
@yogthos @dan613 @pinhman this is well understood. But again, I honed in on his catastrophic condemnation of that order, which stands out among his peers, regardless. You know things are getting serious for the neoliberals when they begin to admit truths some of us have put a lot of energy into getting others to listen to for decades. (Im not a Carney supporter, im a fan of Neoliberalism blacking its own eyes out)
@milkman76 @dan613 @pinhman for sure, it's one of the most significant admissions about the nature of the liberal world order to date
@tlariv Loved those 90's era Boston teams. Convinced Cam Neely would be Alex Ovechkin if Kasparitus hadn't wrecked his knee.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
Only without being buds with Putin.
Spaceship lands in the park. A door dilates. Alien comes out. Says to the gathering crowd:
"I've been all over the universe, seen everything. Can you entertain me?"
Someone in the crowd shouts: "Great clown Pagliacci is in town, jokes out of this world!"
Alien starts crying. "But Earthlings..."

it's a thing.
eta: actually, i'm not sure this is quite the reference design paper I had in mind, they likely had a series of them, and there were chips that managed the bias as well.
@uep I meant an entirely unmodified bus that wasn’t supplying a known DC bias that you could tap into. Bus idle would be a problem because transmitters go Hi-Z. On the other hand, maybe you could use the common line’s voltage and termination/pull resistors?
Someone please explain the physics of this
I just took a bad fall outside on the pavement. I was wearing jeans. Both my knees are bleeding but my jeans didn't tear
How do the jeans stay intact while my knees are scraped enough to be bleeding underneath?
[I'm mostly fine, maybe a sprained left wrist where all my weight landed. But this is a genuine question about my knees]
Cory Doctorow: "America is not great. It has been gutted by the Epstein class, who robbed us blind, raped our kids, and are now selling us shitcoins and chatbots and the spectacle of protesters being shot in the streets."

Of course it would have to be the "LinkedIn clone for the fediverse" that would have to be "vibecoded", in true style. 🤣

Oh gee, the author of "The Bell Curve," a racist book that racists love feels "hostile" that a Black woman was cast as Helen of Troy? Also, the Odyssey is not "a historical setting"
Gosh, perhaps he was just racist all along, rather than a political scientist "just asking questions."

@farah so valid. I suspect, in my case at least, that neurodivergence plays strongly into my nonappreciation of what many, many others laugh at, that is to say i do laugh but its rarely at the same moments as other people, so your claim that comedies arent funny may hold some water, if only subjectively. Also ive been told that im funny, but my observations suggest that the thing others are laughing at is me personally, not the jokes i make.
That said, as someone who also generally dislikes but wants to like comedies, I really enjoyed the first season of The Great North, also an older but less known show I still routinely giggle at is Better Off Ted... but yeah, so many comedies are just... not funny to me, an ostensibly funny person
@Irenetherogue Yes I can relate to this. One of my oldest friends once told me, I had a dry sense of humor. I don’t really know what that means. I laugh at a lot of stuff that are not marketed as funny. I suspect neurodivergence, in my case too
If you think of universal basic income as just "more money," you aren't understanding it and what makes it so different and effective. The fact it comes at a regular frequency is a key factor. When you know that whatever happens next month, you can still buy food, that's a huge deal.
It's STABILITY
@scottsantens would it not help people get out of the 'survival' stage of maslows and in to the generative, 'self-actualization'? Like, if people dont have to worry about losing their house or eating for the day, that frees up SO MUCH MENTAL SPACE OMG and then we can actually use our brains to think and create and do what humans do best
