I know it’s easy and cool to dunk on EU red tape but this is actually sexy af: https://commission.europa.eu/news-and-media/news/right-repair-new-consumer-rights-easy-and-attractive-repairs-2026-07-31_en

For the last decade (or maybe more actually) hardware engineering has leaned heavily on proprietary screws, anti-repair software pairing, and literal buckets of industrial adhesive.
This piece treats the EU Directive as a tactical defeat for aggressive silicon anti-features.

Actually I think the right to repair is vital. We’ve got too much e-waste as it is so I welcome such efforts to make and mend.

Silicon Valley won’t like it but honestly, they are the problem in most cases

- Partial interoperability with private communities on Lemmy (available in Lemmy v1.0 beta). You can follow them and participate in discussions.
- The ability to mute threads was added.
- "Local", "Federated" and "Profile directory" links were moved from the navigation bar to the "Explore" page.
- It is now possible to determine custom feeds to which a user has been added (profile menu -> "View custom feeds")

This is like Pocket for social posts, super cool! If you have Surf, try it out!

Heyo @Bonfire, did you vibe-coded your website https://bonfirenetworks.org/ ?
I have been following your project for some time to see how it evolves because it looks real cool, but after checking the website since a few month I am very disappointed that it now looks like [every other fucking website](https://op.tngl.io/every-fucking-website).
Especially considering your line "for communities who'd rather shape their tools than be shaped by them", that would be ironic to have your website shaped by a tool.

I stopped using pagecord and went to self hosted for my blog when I realized how much the admin relies on LLM. actually, he fed the entirety of my 26 year blog into Claude to figure out how to port it to pagecord, without my prior consent. I only knew afterward when I read his blog on how he resolved the situation

My eldest (18) has always struggled with keeping friends, but has really bonded with mine (50+). We have a group chat for slagging and arranging gigs and drinks. He's a good lad and my friends are like terrible uncles. This makes us all happy.

I've been keeping a running list of fediverse events going on for a while:
https://hackers.pub/@wakest/2026/upcoming-fediverse-events

I started the list on @hackerspub (1st screenshot) and it works pretty great, except that Mastodon (4th screenshot) doesn't display `articles` so it shows up here as just the title with a link and a OG preview which is really not great

It's pinned on https://activitypub.space > Technical Discussions
