@soviut @sil That said, I agree that when things come in under specific budgets, this can be a better way to build certain classes of UI. I'm using elk.zone to post this, and it's wonderful. The YT PWA is pretty great. But these are exceptions that prove the rule: the set of teams that can be trusted to do a good job with an SPA stack could deliver a great experience without it.

@slightlyoff @sil I've worked several times with those teams who picked the wrong tech. They did so because they're cargo culting and would fare even worse with vanilla JS or an MPA.

The issue is many of them don't have deep web fundamentals. Not because of frameworks, but because the web is notoriously vast and constantly churning. I happen to like the churn but many find it exhausting and I don't blame them for that.

At the very least, Frameworks are well documented mostly static targets that let developers focus more on solving problems rather than fighting their browsers. Frameworks are solving a people problem more than a technical one.

Wow, if you search for signal messenger on DuckDuckGo using Chrome, the actual @signalapp web site is the *third* entry following ads for “Signal Private Messenger – Free Download” that leads to the site appmaus.com and “Get Signal Messenger | Install Signal App” that leads to the site filelocations.com.

DuckDuckGo should be held criminally liable for anyone who ends up downloading malware because of this.

#NoScript 13.5 is out, with many user experience improvements!

The most visible:
- new "cascade permissions" mode
- the onboarding / site classification behavior panel (in the picture)

**Site Classification Behavior**

Please select the way NoScript behaves when encountering unclassified sites. You can revisit this choice from the NoScript Options page and whenever you reset NoScript.

- STRICT / Default Deny

The traditional and most secure NoScript behavior: unclassified sites, marked as "DEFAULT", are NOT considered trusted. Potentially harmful capabilities, including scripts, are disabled. You can manually enable the sites you trust by opening the NoScript interface and marking them as "TRUSTED", or further customize their capabilities by selecting "CUSTOM". Cross-site protections are always enforced.

- EASIER / Auto

A compromise between security and convenience: the top level site, whose address is shown in the navigation bar, is automatically promoted to "Temporarily TRUSTED" unless already manually classified. 3d party sites still need to be classified manually. Cross-site protections are always enforced.

- EASIEST / Default allow

The most relaxed behavior: unclassified top-level sites are promoted to "Temporarily TRUSTED", and capabilities enabled for the top-level site are automatically cascaded to all its 3rd party unclassified sub-resources. @Crell @laravista On the surface, maybe the other stuff sounds good, but I think it comes from some bad development experiences.

@thechrisdantes @FediTips Yes you can - the button that says 'Read', click the dropdown arrow next to it then select 'Start Reading'.
Alternatively, you can manually enter more read dates on the book page under Your Reading Activity click 'Add read dates'.

Business Insider reports that Oura is planning to expand its Oura wearable rings beyond health tracking to allow for payments, authentication, and more.

Well, Capitan Buzzkill (me) here wrote about Oura's security and privacy practices earlier this year, and found:

• Oura rings *don't* end-to-end encrypt users' health data;
• As such, Oura *can* access its users' data;
• Oura told me that the company *has* received U.S. government demands for users' data.

@alienghic Just stay warm and dry... layers, appropriate gear, etc. Looks like it will be cool but not wet. If you've got the right layers that is not a problem, I would do that. (make sure you have at least a 20 degree sleeping bag though)
