New in PN: Trump wants a race war. Minnesotans won’t take the bait.
"They genuinely don’t understand how white citizens could care for immigrant communities in their midst, and they’re going to keep trying to drive a wedge between us. But Minnesotans will do what they did the first time around: take to the streets and protect our neighbors." https://www.publicnotice.co/p/trump-minnesota-somalis-race-war

@urlyman Things always go well until a greedy landlord moves in.

Er..... I thought it would be funny and cute to post a picture under this of a racoon in human clothes (full disclosure - definitely search it up - it is adorable), but was slightly surprised by the top search hit.....
@rmondello “There are bad things happening in tech and untrustworthy people and companies do exist, but they’re largely in the AI space, not the “let’s stop people we love from getting compromised through phishing” space.”
This is where you lose me. It’s naive to think the untrustworthy people and companies are “largely in the AI space”. “Embrace, Extend, Extinguish” predates AI. I get that you and the people you work with feel that you’re on the right side of this issue, and I get that you have a strong working knowledge of it, but you are all cogs in a machine that will continue past your contributions. That machine is designed to provide returns to shareholders. Not to safeguard grandmas, not to protect people from online IDs, and especially not to prevent strings from being pulled to tighten restrictions on consumers in order to extract more money.
To me, the most surprising thing about the fedi defibrillator thread was the complete lack of people explaining how they've made an open hardware defibrillator.

There might be a project but the devs a still fighting over which distro to use.
No Kings is October 17, with 36 events in 27 Arizona towns, including Kingman, Show Low, Douglas and Rio Rico. We put them all on one map and one list, with times, meeting spots and RSVP links. Every event commits to nonviolence.
🚨Right now, Greenpeace Australia Pacific activists are occupying one of Woodside’s offshore gas platforms.
Woodside’s latest gas project would bring dirty gas infrastructure like this straight to Scott Reef, putting pygmy blue whales, green sea turtles, and dusky sea snakes at risk.
All for gas that we do not need.
We’re not prepared to stand by while an extraordinary place like this is put at risk.
And neither should the Australian government.
🌊 Tell the Albanese Government and Minister Murray Watt to reject Woodside’s dirty Browse project and Save Scott Reef.
The Craigallian Fire Memorial on outskirts of Glasgow. This marks the location of a meeting point for those travelling between the city and the mountains to the north.
From around the start of the 1920s until the outbreak of World War II, it's said a fire was continually kept burning here by the steady stream of young and old, students and workers who explored Scotland and fought for the right to roam across its wild places unhindered.

@urlyman Floated around here: The internet used to be a library, it has become a store... or something along these lines. This fits the profile.

Israeli legislative elections are set to take place on October 27. In the first elections since October 7, 2023, all major Israeli candidates oppose Palestinian statehood, with varying degrees of explicit endorsement of genocide, annexation, and apartheid.
