Emma Kaleleonālani, fought for the world's first universal healthcare system in 1859, in Hawaii. No Western country would attempt socialized medicine for a century. The US decimated our free healthcare for selfish profit. Today US workers are wealth-stripped by private healthcare
My mind is blown. My mom is Igbo yet I never heard the supposedly common phrase “Igbo enwe eze” (from pg 35 of African Anarchism) which translates to “Igbos recognize no kings,” and speaks to a tradition of communal solidarity and non-hierarchical leadership. Now I’m finding a number of academic papers by Nigerians on the topic of Igbo communalism. #Nigeria#Africa#Anarchism#communalism #solidarity#NoKings
GOOD! 😈 #Trump#WhiteHouse Rages Over ‘#SouthPark’ Episode, Calls Show ‘Fourth-Rate’
The president cowed #Paramount execs, but the company’s talent is rebelling. Now, the administration is melting down

Excerpt: "The twice-impeached, repeatedly indicted president has for decades harbored intense, mean-spirited pop-culture fixations, and that personality trait has not changed six months into his second administration. It would be easier to shrug off his celebrity obsessions as mere cattiness, if waging war on late-night television and its corporate owners weren’t an actual facet of his administration’s sprawling project of #authoritarianism and #fear.
"Prior to the White House’s statement, Rolling Stone had asked several Trump advisers if clips of the latest South Park episode had been circulating among Trump’s staff. One senior administration official replied, 'Of course,' noting how much their phone had lit up about it. A Trump adviser also said they’d seen it, and that as a longtime fan of the series, they found it 'disappointing.' [Who cares!]
"Trump recently secured a hefty payout from Paramount to settle his meritless lawsuit against CBS News’ 60 Minutes, based on his claims that the show selectively edited an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris, his 2024 opponent, to 'make her look better.' The agreement is part of a broader pattern of major corporations settling Trump’s baseless lawsuits, agreeing to shovel millions of dollars into his presidential library fund () to accommodate the president.
"The Paramount settlement comes as the firm seeks regulatory approval for its merger with Skydance — and appears to contain more than just a payout to Trump’s library fund. According to Trump, the deal includes a $16 million settlement as well as $20 million 'from the new Owners, in Advertising, #PSAs, or similar Programming.'
"South Park specifically skewered the reported PSA arrangement on
Wednesday. The episode concluded with an AI-generated PSA showing a fully nude Trump wandering the desert with a 'teeny tiny' penis."
Trump's library fund? Do they mean Fantasy Island Book Store? lol! 😂

📣 #NEWJERSEY may seem like a blue state, but we can't take it for granted, especially for Governor.
Massive turnout for the #NoKings protests won't mean ANYTHING unless people also VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS UP & DOWN THE BALLOT.

We asked Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for his and his staff’s emails with Elon Musk and Musk’s companies.
The governor’s office won’t turn them over, saying some contain “intimate and embarrassing” information that is “not of legitimate concern to the public.”

WTF!!! #DHS Tells #Police That Common #Protest Activities Are ‘Violent Tactics’
DHS is urging law enforcement to treat even #skateboarding and #livestreaming as signs of violent intent during a protest, turning everyday behavior into a pretext for police action.
By Dell Cameron, Jul 10, 202
"The #DepartmentOfHomelandSecurity is urging local police to consider a wide range of protest activity as violent tactics, including mundane acts like riding a #bike or livestreaming a police encounter, WIRED has learned.
"WIRED has made this article free for all to read because it is primarily based on reporting from Freedom of Information Act requests [#FOIA]. Please consider subscribing to support our journalism.
"Threat bulletins issued during last month’s '#NoKings' #protests warn that the US government’s aggressive immigration raids are almost certain to accelerate domestic unrest, with DHS saying there’s a 'high likeliness' more Americans will soon turn against the agency, which could trigger #confrontations near federal sites.
"Blaming intense media coverage and backlash to the US military deployment in #LosAngeles, DHS expects the #demonstrations to 'continue and grow across the nation' as #protesters focused on other issues shift to #immigration, following a broad 'embracement of #AntiICE messaging.'
"The bulletins—first obtained by the national security nonprofit #PropertyOfThePeople through public records requests—warn that officers could face assaults with fireworks and improvised weapons: #paint-filled fire extinguishers, smoke grenades, and projectiles like #bottles and #rocks.
"At the same time, the guidance urges officers to consider a range of #nonviolent behavior and common #ProtestGear—like #masks, #flashlights, and #cameras—as potential precursors to violence, telling officers to prepare 'from the point of view of an adversary.'
"Protesters on #bicycles, #skateboards, or even 'on foot' are framed as potential 'scouts' conducting reconnaissance or searching for 'items to be used as weapons.' #Livestreaming is listed alongside ' #doxxing' as a 'tactic' for 'threatening' police. Online posters are cast as ideological #recruiters—or as participants in 'surveillance sharing.'
"One list of 'violent tactics' shared by the Los Angeles–based Joint Regional Intelligence Center—part of a post-9/11 fusion network—includes both protesters’ attempts to avoid identification and efforts to identify police. The memo also alleges that face recognition, normally a tool of law enforcement, was used against officers.
"Vera Eidelman, a senior staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union [#ACLU], says the government has no business treating #constitutionally protected activities—like #observing or #documenting police—as threats.
"#DHS did not respond to a request for comment."
