@howtophil @probnot I mean, whatever float your boat, but DVD quality is like twice as good as even the best VHS, Blu-ray is 6 times better than DVD and 4K Blu-ray is 4 times better than Blu-ray; so you can get that movie in a ~48x quality improvement over VHS. (Worth it!)

But I also do occasionally watch a VHS, sometimes it's even the only available format for some really obscure stuff or it's extremely appropriate (e.g. The Lawnmower Man on VHS)...

This is CNN, just in case you're worried that you're going to "lose" another news source to the fascists. I mean yes, but only in a manner of speaking given what they already do for a living.

@toxi Great! My goto for many servers, many years. They unfortunately now accept LLM code, so borgmatic may be my eventual next. A lot of eyes on Borg however, so it fairly widely & tightly audited.

Yes, it's a known fact that Russia is behind a lot of Far Right propaganda and manipulation in Europe and beyond, but there's a graph circulating about far right traffic being down after a Russian data center being down and... It feels a bit sketchy and had no sources.

@woozle Until mid-70s, my gran ran a 35-staff business in a small town in ireland. Her grocery list was written at home. In the office, a junior took it across the street to the grocer.

At ~4pm, the grocer carried the food to gran's office yard, & placed it in the boot of her car..At home, the maid unloaded.

50 years later, my online food order takes an oddly similar path: my list, delivered to my door. That digital data could support many difft distribution models.

@haskal@types.pl one of the greatest things ive ever experienced while working in a nightclub was this woman who, upon being complimented on her dress, said "thanks it has pockets" then pulled out a fucking Nintendo switch

@raucao @micahflee Me too. But I switch to Deepeek-V4-Pro when the going gets hard.

Set an alarm for 2 minutes and focus mindfully on your breathing, nonjudgmentally bringing yourself back from any distractions.

I should probably say this before the movie comes out so it doesn't come off as me being affected by the cinematic choices, but I've always had, emotionally, an undeserved and not-based-in-reality sympathy and affinity for Elizabeth Holmes.

Like not in any way questioning facts or motivations or consequences, she absolutely did huge amounts of fraud and damage and.. did she kill anyone? did anyone die? I don't remember.. and none of that is too little, this isn't a take on culpability. purely aesthetic.
The flat-affect speaking, visibly-artificial social behavior, and strong affectation of passionate knowledge* is just absolutely My Specific Frequency and if she started a cult and I was targetted, I'd be in extreme danger.

(* a completely false affectation, in this case, and like in theory I'd HOPE that I would be able to tell that in a short amount of time and walk away, but I've never been tested like that so it'd be lying to claim I wouldn't get suckered.)

Unrelated to anything.

is Ukraine blowing up Yandex datacentres really leading to less misinformation in Germany? I want to believe but I dunno

@nileane @thildACAB moi ça m'embête de voir gâcher de la farine comme ça

Le Gloupier il se faisait chier à ramener un plat cuisiné, excusez-moi mais c'est quand même autre chose

@lexfri Gruber is a complete dick and has been for a long time, on many occasions.

Yandex has nine data centres in Russia. Ukraine has taken out three of them in just the past four days. And they could be doing the world a favour.

Because it's not just angry mums from Arkansas who have fallen silent. In Germany, views of the main AfD account have dropped 90% and engagement's down 60%. The party's apparent popularity is heavily boosted by smoke, mirrors and bots.

As a bonus, this could cripple Russian efforts to interfere in the US mid-term elections.

Three down... six to go.

@tubsta @oxy mine dude on the tour said they often put water back in the river that’s cleaner than what’s in the river already - but even though he’s a nice guy I find that hard to believe due to prior history of mining company shenanigans

@ploum Il faudrait des sources quand-même. Je veux dire, c'est pas un scoop que la Russie téléguide l'extrême droite un peu partout, mais ce graphique bien que plaisant sort un peu de nulle part.
