@matt @alexchapman I absolutely see the ethical concerns around the overusage of AI, and a lot of it's use cases, but much like most technologies it's uses are be based on the user. I saw a post from someone that I've previously gotten along with that said "It is literally just a plagiarism machine.
It can not create anything. It can not discover anything.
It can not do anything but destroy the planet and steal labor.
It is an objectively evil concept.
@tjolsen And I disagree that its an evil concept and can't create anything, I've made it create some awesome accessible tools, and people wanna disregard that because of the ethical issues, well, everything that's been invented over the last 50 years has had ethical issues, so AI is no different. @matt

@hsorlie The red base on the right looks a lot better to me (and I think fits more with how actual fire looks, the whiter/yellower heat being more central to the flame with the surrounding glow trailing off into reds and oranges).

I think I like the right one best, and think it looks more natural (I've searched for "flames" on noai.duckduckgo.com and scrolled through 😄), although several tutorials I've seen online use versions of the method I used on the left. I think I'll build on the right hand version, but try out letting the yellow fade to orange again, along the edges (agree with you, @o_o ). I also want to at least try a little blue here and there along the base. 🤔
@jplebreton @jonny As an undergrad physics student, I overheard another student asking our E&M prof if he could do an independent study on metaphysics. The prof calmly took a dictionary from the shelf and read the definition for "metaphysics", which said something about "pseudoscience". He turned to that definition and read the likes of "inherently incompatible with the scientific method". Turned back to the student, "no", and placed the dictionary back on the shelf.
These guys missed out on a necessary formative experience.

@alexchapman It might be better to calm down, think about the issues they're raising, and see if you can refute them logically. The anti-AI people I've seen, at least the more thoughtful ones, have serious moral objections to the way these models are being made and the impacts of both their training and usage. That's not something to disregard lightly. I still frequently doubt whether I should be using these models myself, and for what purposes.

Here is some random gameplay from the work-in-progress version of Nodes of Yesod on the Spectrum Next. Still many rough edges, but the core game is pretty much there. This isn't meant to be a polished video by any means, as you can tell, since I keep forgetting where the munchable walls are. :)
Things currently in the build but not evident from the video:
- Edge jumping. Back in 1985, it was kind of expected that platform games would require pixel-perfect jump timing. And 1985 me was OK with that. 2026 me just wants to play and explore without trying 10 times for that one jump and losing all my lives in the process. So, edge jumps. Hold down as you approach the edge of a platform, and Astro Charlie jumps from the last possible point on the platform.
- Jump control. In addition to edge jumping, which isn't always what you want, I've added jump control. It is not quite Mario-level fly-around-in-the-air jump control, but you can accelerate or decelerate while airborne to make the jump a little bit longer, or a little bit shorter.
In practice, these two additions make the game much more enjoyable.
You might spot a couple of other easter eggs in here too, which I'll say nothing about for now.
I'm thinking about what to do with this. Obviously, it is for the Spectrum Next, and I promised during KS1 to make a version of Nodes. I'll provide a digital copy to KS1 backers as and when it is done. Shhh, etc.
I wonder if people would be interested in a physical release?

If so, there needs to be broader propagation of this! This much money can be used to empower the people and their lives, think health care, education, basic universal income (a stretch goal for sure, but at this everything else that is good for people seem to be a stretch goal, if it even registers as people’s “need”).
@macronaut Yes. This is money from taxes the city council or county board of supervisors is paying out because of Law Enforcement misconduct.

OK, there are plenty of bars called "La Rambla" in San José, but there may or may not be a match with this one: 6th Street, 8th Avenue, San José.
