Monsoon magic in the mountains of southern New Mexico.

Evening sun shines on Sierra Blanca peak with afternoon monsoon storms in the background brilliant in the full sunlight. Foreground terrain is in shadow, but the flanks of the peak are shown in stark relief thanks to the low sun angle.

This is a monochrome image, taken in near infrared. This makes the conifers appear almost snow-covered because they are very reflective in near IR.

The peak and its flanks show much relief because of the low sun angle. The upper part of the sky is mostly clear, but a sloping line of fully lit storm clouds behind the peak add a sweeping gesture to the composition.
