Walking back from a gig tonight, I noticed lots of people in Castle Street taking pictures. So I turned around to see what they were photographing.

And this is what I saw.

There are two dark circles of cloud, one on each side of the moon, which is lighting up their edges so they look like eyes or spectacles. The rest of the sky is very dark, and the cliffs of Castle Hill are also dark. In the bottom right corner the top of a tree can be seen, lit up by a street lamp. The leaves are bright green.

Winner – monochrome: Party Streamer

‘Orca WA007 joyfully leaps out of the Bremer Canyon after devouring a Cuvier’s beaked whale, her prey’s intestines subtly hanging from her mouth like a festive decoration. Around 300 of these mammal-hunting orcas have been recorded in this remote Southern Ocean hotspot, with unfolding research suggesting they may be their own ecotype.’ Noongar country, Southern Ocean, off Bremer Bay, Western Australia.

Winner – landscape: The Beast

‘I love the raw power and beauty of storms. Watching this severe storm making its way to me, I was filled with excitement and anticipation. To capture the only CG (cloud-to-ground) bolt to come from this amazing shelf cloud was absolute bliss. Once again, thank you Mother Nature!’ Kabi Kabi country, Kings Beach, Queensland.

I've had one of those very low energy/mood day today. After accompanying husband to his doctor's appointment, the only thing I did was to take down a painting and put up a new sheet of paper on my easel. But I got to sit out and enjoy the incredible evening colors in the sky. So, that's something. Truly one of the prettiest cloud shows I've ever seen.
