I’m getting extremely close to being able to use a Linux HTPC to replace my AppleTV. I just need a good remote that works with Steam Big Picture mode and I think I’d be happy enough with it. I tried the flirc Skip 1s with flirc usb and it’s so close. I can control my TV, soundbar, Jellyfin, and YouTube with it but I can’t really control Steam meaning I can’t switch apps. Not sure what to try next.

The hardest piece of hardware to buy in 2025 is a high-quality 4K television that is just a "monitor".
What if I don't want the OS? or the microphone in the remote? Or the ads? How about a dumb panel with 4 HDMI ports that turns on instantly and displays pixels without negotiating with a cloud server?
A friend is looking for one and to help her I've resorted to looking at commercial/signage displays just to escape the smart ecosystem.
Has anyone found a reliable source for "dumb" panels, or are we stuck disconnecting the WiFi and hoping the firmware doesn't complain?

All smart #TV collect personal data. Here's how to use #privacy settings to limit #surveillance.
Any TV connected to internet likely does this alongside now-standard snooping practices, like tracking what apps you open and where you’re located. #ACR is particularly nefarious, though, as it can identify not just streaming services, but also offline content: video games, over-the-air broadcasts, and physical media.
