Did you ever have a look at the excellent #documentation of #Purism products?

https://docs.puri.sm/

One of the products of Purism is the #Librem5. The Librem 5 is a #Linux phone that runs the #PureOS operating system.

This phone is built up from the bottom to provide #privacy and software #freedom. No #surveillance by the manufacturer, free and #opensource (#FOSS) is their standard.

I use a Librem 5 as my daily phone.

Well this all sounds above board…

‘Other suggestions from the tech companies included using high-powered quantum computers to “analyse past data to predict future behaviours and create diversion paths” and to automate sentencing calculations in the overstretched probation service.’

Not a ‘Black Mirror’ episode, apparently.

Sinaloa cartel used phone data and surveillance cameras to find FBI informants

A hacker working for the Sinaloa drug cartel was able to obtain an FBI official's phone records and use Mexico City's surveillance cameras to help track and kill the agency's informants in 2018, the U.S. Justice Department said in a report

#Surveillance is a very bad idea. No matter if by cameras or #ChatControl . The bad guys will also get access.

🚨"ICE Is Using a New Facial Recognition App to ID People, Leaked Emails Show.

The news highlights the Trump admin’s growing use of sophisticated tech for its mass deportation efforts & #ICE’s enforcement of its arrest quotas."

Holy #surveillance hell, Batman.

Let me get this straight:

First, they feed your video, which is already stored in their cloud, into an #AI transformer to write descriptions.

Then they feed your descriptions into a pattern learning system (ML, maybe?) to figure out your patterns and habits.

All of this is stored in the cloud. So they not only have your video, but a narrative about your habits, ready to be exfiltrated, monetized, and shared with law enforcement.

"At their heart, these technologies infringe human rights."

Last week @sianberry tabled an amendment to the UK Crime and Policing Bill that would prohibit the use and deployment of dangerous 'crime-predicting' police tech.

These systems will subject overpoliced communities to more surveillance. More discrimination. More injustice.

Video of Siân Berry (Green MP) speaking in the UK House of Commons about an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill that "would prohibit the deployment and use of certain forms of “predictive” policing technologies, particularly those that rely on automated decision-making, profiling and artificial intelligence, to assess the likelihood that individuals or groups will commit criminal offences." "Such technologies, however cleverly sold, will always need to be built on existing, flawed police data, or data from other flawed and biased public and private sources. That means that communities that have historically been over-policed will be more likely to be identified as being “at risk” of future criminal behaviour.... At their heart they infringe human rights, including the right to privacy and the right to be presumed innocent."
