Since it’s a spooky number day in the *darkest* month of the year, I thought I’d mix things up briefly…

Armchair, 2020

A set of four almost black and white photographs. They all depict a velvet armchair on wood floor in front of a draped fabric backdrop. In the first image, 8 hands wrap around the edges of the arm chair, 3 on each side and two from above, framing where your head would be, if you were sitting there… in the second image, many, many arms reach out from behind the chair, with splayed, grasping fingers. They come from all directions, reaching out radially but asymmetrically and angularly. The arms are lit mostly from above and have shadows which give definition to the bodily forms… and make the scene even more eerie. In the third image, it’s very similar except one arm from the right is reaching in to the center of the chair, as if feeling for… is… are you… in the final image, many arms have consolidated, and 8 arms remain, 4 from each side. The arms all reach with great straining length around the body of the chair into where you would be sitting. Some lower arms reach with splayed seeking fingers, while the upper left arm in particular reaches with a bent wrist and sharp tense fingers, as if about to—
