"The Shambhala Warrior Prophecy" • Joanna Macy

> «There comes a time when all life on Earth is in danger. In that time great powers have arisen. Barbarian powers as they’re called. And although they waste their wealth in preparations to annihilate each other, they have much in common. And among the things they have in common are weapons of unfathomable, destructive power and technologies that lay waste to the world. It is just at this point, when the future of all beings hangs by the frailest of threads, that the kingdom of Shambhala emerges.
> Now, you can’t go there, because it’s not a place. It exists in the hearts and minds of the Shambhala warriors. And you can’t tell whether someone is a Shambhala warrior just by looking at them because they wear no uniform or insignia. They have no banners to show which side they’re on, no barricades on which to climb to threaten the enemy or behind which they can rest and regroup. The Shambhala warriors don’t have any home turf. There is only the terrain of the barbarian powers for them to move on, regroup, and use.»

This is a tedious hit piece that gets re-run every few years. It always makes the same mistakes.
(1) overlooking the colonization of South Asia and Burma by British troops, Protestant missionaries, and capitalists, which is directly responsible for both Hindu Sangh Parivar violence (like Modi and the RSS/VHP) and Buddhist ethnic nationalism in Sri Lanka and Burma
(2) setting up a "wow, gosh, everyone thinks Buddhism is peaceful" straw man argument - look at the Mongols, Japanese Zen during the early 20th century, modern Korean Buddhism (nationalist and happy with military service), the Khampas who fought a guerilla war against the PLA.... it's only hand-wringing elites drenchef in colonial power who don't actually know the history of Buddhists worldwide.
(3) Treating Buddhist lineages worldwide as all part of a single "religion" -- itself a colonial idea enforced by European Christian missionaries, and now inescapably part of the post-colonial trap.

Some of the books I have written in the past 30 years. Some are not in the stack, some are not even on my homepage (http://t3x.org), some are out of print. I have lost track over the years. It has been quite a journey, though.

Status in the half-lotus seat, red pine wood (common on the #Korean peninsula), Koryu-ji, #Japan. It is said that the powerful Hata Kawakatsu family received a #Buddha statue from #Korea and presented it to Prince Shotoku, who founded Koryu-ji. A #Buddha statue in the style of the Southern Dynasty. It is called the "Poet of the East" because it is reminiscent of a sculpture by Rodin.

On Thursday, November 27 (6:30pm) the Toronto Buddhist Church (1011 Sheppard Avenue W) will hold another soup-packing event. This is to create ready-mix soup bowls with rice, lentils and seasonings for the less fortunate. Like an assembly line, they add individual ingredients to create a nourishing, hearty soup. It's a fun filled group activity serving a great need! They provide all ingredients, so just come to help pack.

On a related note: I really need to find some Buddhist texts in Bengali. I couldn’t find much last night. Whatever little I got - I finally understood the origin of the name of Avalokiteshvara and it’s very enlightening (har har) #Buddhism

Nerd Farah strikes again! Spent hours reading different translations of Heart Sutra only to realize there’s no good translation of those six words. #buddhism #AmReading
True love doesn’t wait for perfection. It meets you in your chaos, your flaws, your scars.
It stays when storms rage, when nights feel endless, when you doubt yourself. It doesn’t run from your darkness—it holds you in it.
True love is presence: the quiet “I’m here” when you’re broken, the hand held when you’re afraid, the laughter at your quirks.
It chooses you again and again, even when it’s hard, even when it hurts. It sees beauty in your mess, strength in your struggle, light in your shadows.
Love is not about finding someone flawless—it’s about finding someone willing to grow, to fight, to stay. It’s a promise to walk together, to build meaning in imperfection. #TrueLove is home.
🪷 Buddhist Reflection: True love is not clinging to perfection—
it is compassion that endures suffering.
In #Buddhism we speak of the Four Immeasurables:
Metta (loving-kindness): wishing well even in difficulty.
Karuna (compassion): staying with pain instead of turning away.
Mudita (joy): celebrating even small moments.
Upekkha (equanimity): remaining steady when life shakes.
Love that stays through storms is love rooted in these qualities.
It sees your scars not as flaws but as part of your wholeness.
It chooses you again and again, even when it hurts.
True love is presence:
the quiet “I am here” in darkness,
the hand held in fear,
the laughter at your quirks.
It is a promise to walk together,
to grow, to endure.
#Love is not escape from suffering—
it is walking through suffering together,
with open hearts.
