Hey @deno_land
can you update Intl. from the current Firefox version
https://github.com/denoland/deno/issues/13257
?
It is also missing the UN M49 ids as commented.
Let's #i18n 🎉

Dreaming of a global website? Translation alone won’t cut it!
In this video, Fuqiao Xue, @w3c's Internationalization lead, breaks down the fundamental concepts of making the web truly global. @webi18n
🎬 Watch: https://youtu.be/-m9KHI1Fg0w
Dive into the key distinctions between internationalization ( #i18n) and localization ( #l10n), and explore what truly matters beyond language, from character encoding and right-to-left designs to culturally adapted formats for dates, numbers, and names.

Loops is now ready to accept translations 🥳
I've updated the frontend to support i18n for nearly every string (including error messages), with the exception of the Admin dashboard, that can wait.
Spread the word 🙏

Loops now has i18n support, you can demo it with English/French on our demo instance:

TRANSLATORS WANTED 🚨
https://github.com/joinloops/loops-server/blob/main/TRANSLATING.md
@gretchenmcc has written an essay that stuck with me for a long while that we don't write "Javascript", we write "english Javascript". We definitely need more exploration on making localizable programming languages
https://www.wired.com/story/coding-is-for-everyoneas-long-as-you-speak-english/
I'd even argue for a feature that allows giving #i18n style translation support for function names

Hi @debby
your description is very insightful.
#multilingual #multilanguage #i18n
#fediverse #activitypub et al.
Imagine a fediverse software doing it like it was meant to be:
https://www.w3.org/TR/activitystreams-core/#naturalLanguageValues ff. and recent comment by Evan https://github.com/w3c/activitystreams/issues/616#issuecomment-2830962874
Actors define which language they are capable of and maybe how much, just like the https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Reference/Headers/Accept-Language
The software can know the incoming languages even if they are not defined:
https://github.com/redaktor/languages
incl. 852 languages, also esperanto and those from the people having no internet (am the author).
Then Debby gets the posts in English or Esperanto when available, can keep post seperate and „no more mixing languages and annoying anyone! “
Multilingual map support is now live on https://www.OpenStreetMap.org
A new vector tile layer from https://www.maptiler.com/ has been added, supporting multiple languages.
Try it out by selecting that layer and then switch between different languages using language selector. #OpenStreetMap #OSM #i18n 🗺️ 🌐

Quite annoyed that i18next has many versions of its own JSON format (now v4) https://www.i18next.com/misc/json-format — every time there's a new version, devs have to convert existing translation files to the new format and ensure that their translation management platform (e.g. Crowdin) already supports it (and older versions).
Glad that I use Lingui for Phanpy which uses the widely-adopted ICU MessageFormat (https://lingui.dev/guides/message-format)
Note: my other projects use i18next, thus the rant.
