@bradlinder oneplus is a shell of its former self. Hard bricked my op13 flashing a ROM because they set it to blow a fuse when downgrading (my bad for forgetting that this was a possibility but still not a very enthusiast friendly design). What will be interesting is how the polls go over the next few months, and how the Labour decision-makers read the tea leaves.

If the Greens continue to rise, they *might* accept that they need to abandon the Blairite centre-right altogether to save themselves from electoral oblivion. OR, they might interpret that as Burnham being too far to the left and spooking their "moderate" supporters. One to watch.

There is one MAYBE valuable book in my house and that is:
1. a self-published print run of 200
2. signed by the author (who did later become notable)
3. in the 1930s

& most libraries would not want it. Brown., Yale, Temple, & a few others have it.

More likely to be a collector item.

Yes Telstra Execs, you're 100% correct the server caused the outage, not the hierarchy of management who decided the cost of the modernisation project for that piece of technology was too expensive.

Just like how it's the NT4 server in that business over there that caused an outage, or the Tru64 system in that other business that caused its failure, or the Netware system over there that caused the outage.

It's always the out of date _server_ that causes the outage, for some reason, and not the business processes that failed. Weird that.

Interview #8 done for Refractor (email). If you count the New York Times interview last Friday, that's 9 for the week.

I've got 3 more interviews lined up for next week so far.

I emailed a couple dozen journalists, had meetings with other astronomers, started talking to Canadian gov't officials, talked to the Board of the Canadian Astronomical Society, gave 2 lectures. I have an idea for more widespread obstruction to work on next week.

I will keep fighting this incredibly fucking awful plan.

this project is a dignified non-dogmatic rationalist marketplace-of-ideas meritocracy. that is why this particular controversial technical issue is beyond discussion, and we will be moving forward with my personal opinion without any community input. it is fine for me to have this position as the BDFL because if you don't like it you can always fork our open source code and spend decades building up the institutional material support necessary to maintain this critical infrastructure
