È normale che siamo tutti un po’ sulla difensiva (me compreso), la stanza è nata da un solo giorno… ma siamo già in 20!

La verità è che stare ognuno nel proprio fortino e non collaborare è controproducente; se non troviamo un vero punto d’incontro, rischiamo solo di farci schiacciare dai soliti social commerciali che già bussano alla porta con il loro “ciao, vi inglobiamo tutti?”.

Chissà, magari tra un po’ ci rilassiamo, abbassiamo gli scudi e iniziamo davvero a fare squadra, aiutarci e costruire qualcosa di bello insieme… senza campanilismi e senza “il mio server è più bello del tuo”.🙏

I only use Mastodon by following people who I like and then reading their posts, in chronological order. I've moved from a bigger Mstodon server to a single-user server.

What's the name of the thing that I want, maybe to subscribe to, to make sure that my server prefetches all of the replies to the posts of people I follow from other servers, since that's definitionally everyone else's but mine?

Years ago I opened my PeerTube channel there very ingenuously, just because the domain name was super cool, but I found myself locked in a PeerTubr server I don't know at all…

Furthermore, by default all newly published videos are blocklisted, and mad publicly available only after admin approval, which takes weeks…

I tried to reach out multiple tiles, both via email and via support form, but I never got any reply.

What are the first few commands you immediately do after setting up a new Linux/BSD machine? I don't care if you do it manually or automated with Ansible. I am just curious about what you deem to be the critical first thing :)

Me:
- feed my ssh keys to /root/.ssh/authorized_keys
- immediately change /etc/ssh/sshd_config to set
PermitRootLogin Yes,
* PubKeyAuthentication Yes,
* PasswordAuthentication No.
- reboot

Curious what you do first :)
