@mattblaze @scottmiller42 I think it's just a side effect of the training. They're using a generic LLM trained on "everything" in the world, multiple languages, multiple styles, and it mashes them all together. It's not like they trained it on, say, all the source code written to a high spec and documented and peer reviewed at IBM, or whatever company. Instead, it's code Joe Hacker posted on a forum, etc. etc. etc. Reddit, etc. and it all gets mashed into a kind of soup, which is inconsistent....

@scottmiller42 @ai6yr I actually find the unreadability and un-maintainability of code produced by generative AI somewhat surprising and interesting. If you had asked me five or so years ago, I would have expected machine produced software to be better than machine produced written language in 2026. But the opposite is clearly true.

Understandably the events of the last week in Maine have everyone's nerves rattled, and there are lots of recriminations to work through.
But if we step back and assess when the race for the US Senate in Maine now stands it seems clear that 1) we dodged a bullet, and 2) Democratic chances of winning have improved substantially.

Canceled my Spotify subscription this year and started using @AntennaPod, and my god what an update to my QoL.
No algorithms shoving perceived interests down my throat, no analytics tracking my every move, and no ads other than any the shows themselves decided to embed in an episode.
Seriously, if you can, give it a shot for at least a week, or swing a donation their way. We all need projects like these to flourish
How does one set up a PHP environment on MacOS these days? I haven't had do this in a long, long time...last time I used MAMP. Are there other options (without VMs, docker, etc?)
I just need to have a simple development server to test a potential app for next fall's web dev course.
